Services
Summer camp can be a transformational experience for children and it is an antidote to many societal issues. Young people thrive in our tech-free community, spend days exploring the natural world with friends and nurturing staff, and have plenty of time to relax and play. They practice social and emotional skills by living with others and by challenging themselves in our adventure-based program.
By giving children the tools to better understand themselves, they develop problem solving skills, independence, confidence, and strength of character. By teaching children how to live and work in a community, they learn to manage themselves in complex social situations, put others' needs before their own, and to work with other strong individuals from all over the United States and the world.
Big Spring Ranch is our Colorado summer camp for boys. Campers select their own activities from the wide variety offered. Many choose to be out-of-camp more than half the term on our incredible trips mountain climbing, horseback riding, rock climbing, tubing on the river, canoeing, fishing, and backpacking through spectacular wilderness areas.
Our leadership team has more than 150 years of collective experience at Sanborn Camps and we are committed to providing the program, the facilities, and the leadership which will make a term at Big Spring, High Trails, or Sanborn Junior a highlight in the life of each child who joins us. Ream more about just how important we think camp is.
Working at Sanborn Western Camps is a challenging and rewarding opportunity. Influencing the lives of children, exploring the Colorado backcountry, working with other staff from all around the country and developing your leadership and technical skills are just a few of the many benefits that come from working in the program.

Don't put your children at risk. They claim to be all about the kids but let my son sleep without his down sleeping bag even after telling his counselor he was cold. His counsolers didn't want him to have to repack it for the overnight hike at the end of their session .He ended up in the hospital with pneumonia. When I picked him up from the hospital. His first words were I'm glad I got sick I was being bullied. I found out he had reported it to several of sandborn staff only to be ignored. Most of his equipment was not returned. They told me they were going to mail it to me but sent me a bunch

I have some of my fondest memories of Big Spring High Trails in the 70’s. Just an awesome place! Climbing Mt Quandary and Mt Sherman, A & B Bluffs, the Grandaddy Rapids on the South Platte River, turquoise and gem hunting, etcetera. So much wonderment from those extraordinary experiences. Thank you Sanborn Western Camps!

I attended Sanborn when I was a kid, and did outbacker as a high schooler. Sanborn camps is easily one of the greatest things I experienced in my life. Columbia,Harvard,Priceton,La Plata, Sherman, Pikes, Massive, all 14rs I have under me at the camp. Canoeing, dances with the high trails girls were things I looked forward to all year. Anyone who has the means to send their kids to Sanborn will not regret it and the kids will NEVER forget it.

All I know is I was a kid when I went and I am 40 now. They still send me birthday cards! Talk about consideration...who else does that? No one. Because nothing is like this camp. I still remember climbing Pikes Peak. Thank you for the memories and just overall kindness!

2017 was my first year at camp, and it was an amazing experience. It is without a doubt the most inclusive and fun camp I've ever had the pleasure to attend, and I am excited to return next year as an Outbacker!

Camper 2nd session for 2016 and 2017. This camp is a wonderful place where relationships are born and bonds are strengthened. I have no doubt in my mind to say that this camp offers everyone interesting activities with wonderful people to guide you, assist you, and befriend you. Over the past 70 years, it has been crafted to perfection without sacrificing its originality, creativity, and amazing vibes. I just finished the session, and I'm already counting down the days, hours, and minutes left until I can be bombing a mountain or cooking up some food on the trail.
BOOM.

I was at Big Springs Ranch 60 years ago. I went for several summers.v I can only say it was and is a memory I have never forgotten. I am now trying to get my children to send my grandchildren there. My experiences were nothing less than builders of all my outdoor enjoyments.
I could not imagine my life had I not spent time at this camp. I'm actually working on my wife to agree to join me or allow me to go back to the camp and help the Sandborn family do the same for future generations. What a wonderfull experience.
Send your children, you will not regret the experience, your child will come home
