Since 1971, MYB has been successfully preparing young dancers for a career in the performing arts as well as providing classes to dancers of all ages and levels, and by presenting professional quality, yet accessible, award winning ballet performances for the entire region. MYB began in founder Hortensia Fonseca's basement in the 1960's.
Outgrowing the space, she moved into a studio in Bethesda and in 1971, MYB was incorporated as a non-profit organization. In 1976, Michelle Lees was brought on as Associate Artistic Director and led MYB to become one of the foremost classical ballet training programs in the region as Artistic Director and Principal.

Services
MYB consistently produces dancers that move on to professional careers in dance companies across the country, are accepted to performing arts conservatories, or attend many of the country's highly ranked academic institutions. It plays such an important role in the lives of many people in our community, especially many young, aspiring dancers who need the kind of guidance and professional training that MYB provides.
The Children's Division includes Early Dance and Introductory Classes that introduce children ages 2-9 to the joy of dance. Early Dance classes use movement, music, and storytelling to develop body awareness, discover creative expression, and explore the basic principals of dance. Early Dance classes meet once per week for 30-45 minutes and are offered during the school year in 8-week sessions.
The Youth Division provides students ages 8-12 with progressive levels of ballet training that focus on developing basic technique and strength. This division includes levels Beginner, Boys Beginner, Intermediate, Boys I, Preparation for Pointe, and Boys II. Registration for the Youth Division is open throughout the year.
The Pre-Professional Division continues to build upon the student's technique and physical strength. Pointe work for girls is introduced and developed in Beginner Pointe, Intermediate Pointe, and Advanced Pointe. Supplemental classes are provided in Variations, Partnering, Jazz, Modern, Pilates, and Flamenco.
The Teen Classes and Electives program offers advanced beginner or intermediate dancers ages 12-19 the opportunity to explore a mix of techniques like Modern, Jazz, and West African. These classes are offered as electives to students enrolled in our Youth and Pre-Professional Divisions or as stand-alone enrollment.

They could improve by: one actually listen to children concerns, not everyone learns the same.
They are not even willing to listen to any accommodations especially due to covid.
I inquired about a possible one day trial, I didn't state anything it absolutely being free or not. I clearly stated the facts of my child maybe not being able to virtually grasp the lessons, seeing as she is very hands on and active in learning. She is more of a in person active listener. They clearly state no Free trial classes. The email was very informal back to me, nor there wasn't any “trying to understand”

So much talent in one place! If you are looking for exceptional ballet training, this is the place to go! The staff is amazing! They meet each dancer where they are and help them grow. They also are an amazing community. All of the teachers and alumni are always willing to help the current dancers. They are a wealth of advice and information!

This is the worst ballet place i've ever been; my daughter signed up for the audition and had the time scheduled, she was so excited about that; we showed up at the studio then found out no audition. They knew this audition will not take place and not even bother to inform us. What a customer service.
