Alejandro Gongora is the founder and Producing Artistic Director of Corazon Folklorico DC, Inc. His mission is to create art with people and showcase Mexico's rich cultural diversity and history through dance. Alejandro teaches and choreographs ballet folklorico as a means to create community con corazon in DC.
I started Corazon Folklorico DC with the mission to showcase Mexico's beautiful culture in the nation's capital. I teach and choreograph ballet folklorico because dance helped me overcome seemingly insurmountable adversity. When I faced being homeless in high school, my folk dance peers opened their homes to me while my family overcame this incredible hardship.
We offer free classes to adults (minimum age 18 years old) on Tuesday's 6:30 PM and Saturday's 3:30 PM. Students obtain their own dance shoes, practice skirt, and workout clothing. The instructors are skilled at teaching dance to all, including people who have not danced before. The Artistic director's approach is to unify people based on their common interest in culture and dance, regardless of dance level.

This company is one big inclusive family!
Corazon Folklorico has allowed me to be more involved with the community and proudly showcase Mexico's culture. The artistic Director is very patient with all levels of dancing and has years of Folklorico knowledge.
If you are in the DMV area and are looking to join a dance group that offers FREE classes, this is your place. I especially encourage transplants who are looking to connect with others.
