Skip Odell works from his one-man shop in Larkspur, Colorado, building fine furniture, cabinetry, boxes, gifts and detail items from hand-selected hardwoods, softwoods and other materials. His items are "one-off's, " original pieces or productions designed to meet individual needs and express personal styles. The pieces featured here, most directly commissioned, demonstrate the range of Skip's work. Our Display Studio houses furniture samples in a variety of materials, with some occasional pieces offered for sale.
Services
An experienced woodworker, designer and problem solver, Skip Odell attended the Rhode Island School of Design as a young man and began working as a ship's joiner shortly thereafter in Ontario, Canada. Over many years, he has worked as a boatbuilder, cabinetmaker, woodworker, homebuilder and sawyer, learning his craft through apprenticeship, trial and error, experience and reflection.
From spare designs with simple clean lines to more ornate pieces featuring handcarved details, Skip's furniture reflects the styles and tastes of his individual clients. His personal design perspective is influenced both by his New England roots and his Western lifestyle. He draws from a varied pallet of woods: maple, oak, mahogany, cherry, walnut, mesquite, pine and cedar, as well as more exotic woods such as paduak, koa and ebony.
From small home projects to large renovations, Skip has years of experience designing and building custom cabinetry, renovating kitchens, remodeling rooms, building small additions, and constructing outdoor living spaces. Our own home is handbuilt from pine and fir Skip logged and sawed himself on our Colorado acreage.
A few finished samples of Skip's work are on display in our Studio. Pieces are done in a variety of solid woods-cherry, maple, walnut, pine and so on-and with a range of methods. Because Skip primarily custom builds to individuals' requests, these items offer a good starting point for discussions about designing exactly what one would like.
