Established over 120 years ago, Alameda Eye Physicians is the oldest and most experienced ophthalmology practice in the Bay Area. Our doctors were trained at the top medical schools and residency programs in the nation and offer a wide range of medical and cosmetic services.
We are proud to be part of the oldest medical practice in Alameda. For over 120 years, our commitment has been to provide each patient with the highest quality, state-of-the-art eye care. Originally founded in Alameda by W. Barclay Stephens, MD as an Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat practice. Bruce M. Stephens, MD (Barclay Stephens older son) joins the practice as an ophthalmologist and W. Barclay Stephens, MD retires shortly afterward.
A comprehensive eye examination is recommended at least every 2 years for patients under 55 according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Patients over the age of 55 are recommended to have yearly exams. A comprehensive exam starts with a complete history of your overall health, ocular history, and family medical history.
Glaucoma is frequently known as the silent thief of sight as it generally has no symptoms until advanced and irreversible vision loss has occurred. Glaucoma is a disease of the optic nerve and most patients with glaucoma experience slow progressive loss of their peripheral vision. Patients often only become aware of the losses at late stages when central vision is affected.
Blepharoplasty is a medical procedure to rejuvenate the appearance of your eyelids. It can also improve your visual field. Dr. Bui has almost 20 years of experience in performing cosmetic eyelid surgery. In February of this year. I was diagnosed with salivary duct carcinoma. My symptoms were swelling on the right side of my face and a droopy eyelid. I saw my primary care physician who determined I had an infection and prescribed antibiotics. I was not convinced. Because of my droopy eyelid, I saw Dr. Khong. She was extremely concerned and sent me to an oncologist. So, my diagnosis was a result of Dr. Khong's expertise and concern for me, her patient.
