This was a unanimous decision made by the board. It was a very difficult decision, and we are very saddened by it. It was a great joy to see familiar faces, and share the energy of sitting together these past months. Unfortunately, due to the new Delta variant, we are struggling with maintaining enough volunteers to consistently hold in person/hybrid meetings.
Unforeseen absences of critical volunteer roles combined with a shortage of available substitutes, has caused us to think hard about what is sustainable for our sangha to offer at this time and has resulted in our decision to return to online programming.

SBMG invites us to enter the path of kindness and wisdom, as individuals and as a community. We offer a diversity of teachings from many Buddhist traditions to support our learning and practice of meditation. Please see our FAQ for a description of our regular Sunday night and Wednesday morning programs, and "How to Meditate."
Whether you are wondering about how meditation might be right for you, wanting to learn about Buddhism, looking for like-minded friends committed to kindness and understanding, or simply writing a school paper, you are warmly welcome to visit SBMG and get a sense of our practice and our community. We are glad to share this beautiful path of kindness and understanding.
Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group (SBMG) began in 1991 when a few people, responding to the onset of the first Iraq War, began to meet regularly in each others' living rooms to study Buddhist meditation and teachings from all lineages. Today, SBMG meets as a thriving and diverse peer-led sangha (spiritual community), whose operation is collaborative, non-hierarchical, and consensus-based.
SBMG is a community (sangha) that we create together, to support our own and each other's practice on the path of wisdom and compassion. Friendship, service, and generosity foster our spiritual growth. We welcome your presence, your questions, suggestions, and energies. Please contact us.
If you are looking for friendly support for your practice, working on questions about how you bring the Buddha path of wisdom and compassion into your daily life, SBMG Dharma Mentors are available.Mentors offer companionship and guidance (not teaching) about meditation, dharma teachings, and living the practice.

The Sacramento Buddhist Meditation Group functions through our members' practice of service to the community. We strive to cultivate a culture of volunteering amongst new and old alike. Volunteering is a fun way for new members to find their way into the community, and an opportunity to "give back" for those who have limited financial means or want to express their gratitude.

I have been coming here for many years! They are very welcoming to all and everyone there is so nice. They have a different teacher each Sunday evening from 6:30pm to 8:30pm. They also have monthly day long retreats, People of Color Sangha, Family Sangha and Tai Chi classes. They also have beginners instruction on the last Sunday of the month.

An inclusive and welcoming place to meditate and learn about Buddhist teachings. It is a peer led sangha featuring skilled teachers from different Buddhist traditions. The main meditation is on Sunday evenings with other meditations offered during the week. Each month, they offer a 1 day retreat led by a skilled teacher.
