Mission Statement: Honest Weight is a member owned and operated consumer cooperative that is committed to providing the community with affordable, high quality natural foods and products for healthy living. Our mission is to promote more equitable, participatory and ecologically sustainable ways of living.
In 1976, Honest Weight was founded by a group of friends to improve access to healthy and responsible foods. Forty-four years later, we're operating the same way. Our friend group has just grown a bit. Honest Weight Food Co-op began in January of 1976 as a bulk buying club, started by a group of about 20 friends and neighbors who wanted access to then-unusual ingredients like whole wheat flour.
Honest Weight is a public grocery store committed to responsibly bringing our community the best products and the healthiest foods. The Honest Weight Food Co-op, founded in 1976, is a member-owned and -operated consumer cooperative. We're committed to providing affordable, high-quality natural foods and products for healthy living.
To reach the Co-op from Interstate 90, take exit 5. Go south toward Central Avenue but take your first left turn onto Watervliet Ave Extension. The Co-op entrance will be on your right, after the Motel 6 and opposite YNN News 9. CDTA bus Route #125 Clinton/Sand Creek directly services the Co-op.
It runs westbound from downtown Albany via Clinton Avenue to Colonie Center via Sand Creek Road, with a bus stop in front of 85 Watervliet Avenue, near the intersection at Essex St. Directly across the street and adjacent to the entrance to our parking lot, there is a bus stop with a shelter to serve patrons on the return trip eastbound from Colonie Center and heading downtown.

Honest Weight Food Co-op is a different kind of grocery store, but we're not an exclusive wholesale club! All are welcome and we are open to the public. Not a member? No problem! When you go into the Co-op, you can explore and enjoy and make purchases, just like at a conventional grocery store. When you check out, your cashier might ask you if you're a member-owner or if you have a member number.

Great service, great variety, one of the few places I trust to buy foods in bulk. More spices available than anyone else I know! If you are looking for good, organic, healthy foods, this is your place! Easy access, lots of parking, quick checkouts. And I am a short-tempered whiny customer so trust me, this is a great place!

I was really expecting to find plant protein based food for my gender neutral iguana at this honest weight but when I asked where the reptilian pet food is I was met by blank stares. 4 stars though for their face covering policy. They seem to be the only grocery store in town that follows the actual science. All the poor's wear masks around their chins at price chopper but I feel like I'm around like minded sophisticated people when I shop at HW. I hate having to look at people's faces out in public and enjoy my little 45 minute vacation of absolute double (I've even seen triple) masked bliss I

This is a great resource of fresh organic, bulk, and all around healthy food. We love their bulk pastas, selection of cheeses, and fresh breads. We end up with way more than was on our list because we find so much goodness that we want. We are very lucky as a community to have such a wonderful grocery store to call our own.

I went for the pumpkin pie latte and it didn't disappoint. It's tasty. The employees, for the most part, are welcoming and helpful with the odd anomaly here and there. LOVE the vegan desserts and overall selection of prepared food. Produce selection is large and a tad overpriced but you can find a good deal every once in a while. I like coming here because I get to support local and it's convenient with ample parking.

I think almost everything here is organic or something like that. They sell all kind of groceries, meat, fish, poultry, coffee, tea, spices and plants. The shop arrangement is beautiful. You can also buy different kind of oils as much as you like by weighing with the weighing machine and put it in your own bottle. Same apply to coffee and spices. They also sell candles soaps and dog foods. Whoever never been there show go and visit there for at least once, it's worth it.

This place is great. I've been here a few times so far and the produce is awesome. Super fresh and beautiful displays. Huge selection of bulk dried fruits/nuts/spices. They also have a fresh nut butter grinder. You can grind your own almond butter! They have Kombucha on tap too which you can buy reuseable glass bottles and get refilled. They also have pre made sandwiches and dinners ready to go until 6pm I believe. I had a meatloaf sandwich one day and it slapped.

I've heard many good things about Honest Weight since moving to Albany so I finally made the pilgrimage with a lot of anticipation. Overall, I was favorably impressed but underwhelmed.
Arriving I was impressed to have a guard who controlled those entering so that the number inside would allow safety and social distancing. Alas, once inside, I found many of the shoppers self absorbed and unconcerned with other shoppers' personal space in light of the pandemic.
The produce area has variety but isn't as extensive as I imagined, and overall it's quite pricey. I'd choose

During the Coronavirus pandemic there is excellent care taken by the Co-op to ensure that social distancing, masks and a limited number of customers are in place.
The quality and variety of produce, cheeses, fish and meat is excellent. Health and cosmetic products, flowering plants for your garden are quality and competitively priced.
If you need a last minute gift for a child's birthday party, you can find it there. A meal for one? At the Co-op. A healthy smoothie? At the Co-op. Unique Salad? Soup? At the Co-op!
The volunteers are friendly and are familiar with what they sell.

I'm giving a two-star review because they are currently putting their employees in danger. The workers at this store are their greatest assets, and they deserve better conditions.

If you're still looking for the best bulk supply grocery store in the Capital Region, Honest Weight should be your top contender.
Honest Weight is the area's largest food co-op, stocking whole/ minimally process foods. You'll easily find your non-GMOs, Organics, Fair-trade, Raw, Paleo, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-Free here, all under the guise of a normal high-end grocery store.

I love the food, I love the people working and shopping, and it makes me a happier and kinder person just being there.
The prepared food is delicious *and* healthy, the produce selection is wide and deep and interesting and seasonal and local. The wellness department is amazing from natural vitamins to supplements and body care and the most helpful and knowledgeable staff. The meat and fish is amazing. Oh and the fruit is terrific, including seasonal organic grapes, local apples, local strawberries in season, local this, local that, kumquats (yes) and all sorts of staples and oddities from farms

Honest Weight is more than just a food co-op, it's a community of people committed to providing healthy, wholesome food (a lot of organic options) and creating healthy, sustainable communities. Although it may be a bit pricey, one can join to be a member owner to get big discounts on their food and groceries.
I'll often come here to get some food from their hot bar (a lot of healthy options), get a green organic juice from their juice bar, and sit down in their cafe to just read and relax (they have wifi as well).
They also have a lot of sales throughout the year on their items

For a few visits that I have been here, I wouldn't claim that its one of the best co-ops or health food stores that I've been at. Certainly it does hold its pros and cons as does every else that I've been to before.

Certainly one of the perks I would have to highlight for sure. I love how most things here are sourced locally.
This place reminded me of a Whole Foods store or maybe a bigger, more organic Trader Joe's or something.
They definitely have all the organic, natural, no herbicide, no pesticide, non-gmo, gluten free stuff you're looking for.

Honest Weight Co-op is doing great things.
The first thing I love about the co-op is the bulk section. Need a teaspoon of a spice you don't have for a recipe? Want to try a kind of flour you haven't heard of, a new kind of tea, or even some granola? If you can think of it, Honest Weight has it in the bulk section (except for currants, I haven't been able to find those. Everything else, though). You can also bring your own containers if you don't want to use plastic, just stop at the service desk on the way in to have them weighed/inspected.

Their bulk food selection is amazing, their cheese selection is amazing. In general, their selection of items is amazing. Produce section is good but pricey. They have fresh seafood. They have a great prepared food, deli and pre-packaged take away food selection, that is made in house. Tip - in the prepared section their beet and black bean burger and sweet potato/bean burgers are really tasty. This

This is a review of my experience here on 2/26/2018 when I was visiting a friend for the weekend and planned to cook my way through it. Let's get to it.

Also, they have more organic made salads here. Discounts for Students 8% Sunday and Seniors Wednesday. Just saw it use to be 10% boooooo!
Also, they need more signs for Sanitary Rules at Buffet Bar, DO NOT touch the Serving spoon with your hand or your nose to smell it --yea some customers have no awareness of hygiene! Gross!

I love love love all of the bulk bins - and this is where you can save a lot of money while finding really obscure ingredients. You can buy a teaspoon or a pound. It's a great way to experiment with new ingredients. There are spices, teas, coffee beans, various flours, oats, gluten free flours, salts, sugars/sweeteners, grains, beans, legumes, dried fruits, and nuts. Then there are the wet bulk items - oils, syrups, molasses, honey, extracts, nut butters, dressings, vinegars, soy sauce, ......basically

Came here on a whim to grab a sandwich from their deli. Wish we had one of these near me. The market is fully stocked with local goods and then other larger organic brands where they need to fill gaps. They have quite the impressive variety of locally sourced and national brands actually.
I went to the deli filled out their sandwich form and had my sandwich in less than 10 minutes. Grabbed a kombucha and went to checkout. It was really pleasant experience.
