Don Castro, owner of Golden State Appliance Repair, has been involved in the appliance repair industry since the mid-2000s. Initially working for a national appliance repair company as a dispatcher and administrator, he eventually learned the trade himself, moved back to his home state of California in 2011, and started GSAR in 2013.
We offer appliance repair services for homeowners in the Monterey Bay Area Monday through Saturday, 9am - 9pm. You can book your appointment by using our service request form. To save our customers money, we don't employ a dedicated receptionist - so our customers typically book appliance repair appointments using our service request form.

It is impossible to write guides applicable for every model of refrigerator, so in some cases there may be additional steps required to complete repairs. For the majority of refrigerators, cooling is generated in the freezer section where a fan circulates the cold air to the refrigerator compartment.

Honest, professional, timely, and considerate! Don assessed our refrigerator recommended different options to address a veiled problem. We decided what we wanted to do and Don ordered parts. When he came to install them, he noticed a subtle difference that helped him conclusively diagnose the problem. Don told us what he found, made some adjustments, and restored our refrigerator without replacing anything. Don and GSAR are our go-to service for all appliance repair needs.

Highly recommend!! We were worried about the price of fixing our freezer and if it would be worth it. He was such a pleasure to work with and very personable. He did an initial look at the freezer then gave us a quote so we could make a decision. He helped us know that it would cheaper and better in the long run to fix than to get a new one. He even lowered the cost after fixing!

My oven just crapped out. My first inclination was to buy a new one...but prices are high, availability is low, and it doesn't help the planet to throw away appliances. I emailed Don and he responded super fast. We phoned/texted for a day and the next day he was at my house, needed part in hand. Oven is good to go! Don is efficient, knowledgeable, friendly. I would HIGHLY recommend. Now I wish I had called him when our washer crapped out.....

Don is THE BEST! Not only did he show up late at night when we had just moved in and saved our washer we just picked up for free, but he was such a delight to talk to! He also noticed another problem that we would have ended up calling him back for. After he was done he introduced his pug and we had to snap a pic. Call Don! He's the best.

Bottom freezer drawer leaking water sporadically. Don came by and knew immediately what was going on, he fixed problem, had to pull out the fridge from the wall, showed us how to clean the coils from the front and how to move the fridge so we could clean underneath, which by the way we now know you need to do more than every 5 years!!! LOL. Don can fix anything!!!!
