An ankle sprain is one of the most common types of ankle injuries. Ankle sprains often occur when someone "rolls" their ankle during a sports activity or when walking or running on uneven terrain. Sometimes a "pop" in the ankle is felt or heard during the injury. Ankle sprains usually involve injury to a ligament, but fractures and cartilage or tendon damage also are possible.
Tendons are the structures that attach muscles to bones. They allow the energy created when muscles contract to be transformed into movement. Without healthy tendons, our ability to move is hampered. Without strong, healthy tendons in our feet and ankles, standing, walking and running can become difficult and painful.
More often the problem is related to the type of foot structure a person is born with. Certain foot types do not allow enough movement of the toe. With each step taken, there is excess pressure in the joint. Over time, this excess pressure causes damage within the joint. Bone spurs develop, and the joint becomes enlarged.

I had a great experience with Dr. Helms. After a running injury to my foot and Achilles that left me immobile and in miserable pain for weeks, I realized that rest alone was not going to heal me. I was so worried that if rest wasn't working, then something was really wrong, but Dr. Helms immediately lifted my spirits by telling me that he was hopeful we could fix the problem with physical therapy, and I could run again one day if I wanted to. He was very thorough in his examinations, listened intently to my concerns, was patient with all of my questions, and was really clear in explaining to me

Dr. Chhiba was AMAZING. I had been hesitant to address an issue with my foot for a while, but gave in after being uncomfortable on a recent hike while on vacation. Dr. Chhiba is smart, thorough, efficient, and very caring. During the procedure she made me feel very comfortable in her care and kept me informed on what was happening, and what I should expect. I will never again delay treatment with my feet!

After Dr. Helm reviewed my ten year history of plantar fasciitis pain and completed a thorough examination he suggested I receive my third pair of orthotics, continue stretching, and then introduced me to energy shock wave therapy/orthotripsy, because he noted that cortisone shots were no longer working. I wish I would’ve been introduced to this therapy by the other podiatrists! My pain is almost gone!

Multiple occasions the doc & the hospital staff asked me about how procedures that was not done is working. Dr told me he looked at my x-ray during my last visit and it is OK. Had to tell him that it was taken moments ago. Charges for these never-performed services started to appear on bills. My guess is the medical scribe, who is taking notes remotely thru the ipad and is visibly bored/distracted, is writing up crap that everyone takes for prophecy. I will not go back to get treated based on those notes.

At the end of September, Dr. Helms performed surgery on a bunion and hammer toe that had been causing me great pain for several years. It is now the middle of February and I am walking in normal shoes with no pain. Dr. Helms did such an amazing job and is such a personal Dr., he takes his time with and explains everything to you in great detail. I would highly recommend him!

I've been to Dr. Helms for multiple foot concerns. From benign skin issues to more serious ligament issues that impacted my daily running and half marathon participation for 18 months.
What I can tell you about the doctor is that he has an incredible amount of empathy for his patients. He specializes in working with runners and is very friendly, honest and direct.
You get to know Dr. helms after a few visits, and what I remember most vividly about him is the twinkle in his eye when he finally sends you off healed, and again, the huge amount of concern he has for patients. Foot issues

Dr. Helms is a fine doctor but his support staff is the reason for 1 star. They repeatedly fail to follow up on orders and prescriptions. It's inexcusable that the pharmacy should have to call the doctor's office and the patient due to no refill being called in. When we try to call the doctors office to ask them to please do their job we go straight to voice mail and are left unsure if we are going to be able to access the medications needed. This happens repeatedly. It is not a one time occurrence. It's unfortunate that Dr. Helms's support staff is so poorly trained or over

He is a competent podiatrist, knowledgeable and nice, but :
-he is definitely a salesmen trying to sell all sorts of items out of his office (for example after ingrown toenail repair he sells you something to neutralize the chemical that is used to destroy the nail bed, he tells you it is not covered by insurance but highly suggests it. In reality it is a 1 oz tube of aloe vera that they charge you $14 for).
Also they take their sweet time. Do not expect to be seen at your appointment time and prepare to be there longer than any estimate they give you. I have been here 5 times and have had the
