I bought a house in Irondequoit about 10 years ago. It was built in the 1920's and as you can guess over the years many plumbing and electrical fixtures have needed replacing. As much as I hate to say it, I'm not much of a plumber/electrician. Luckily Black's is just down the street. Every time I come in, your guys can find the replacement part, explain the installation, and answer my questions clearly and quickly in just a few minutes.

Business hours of Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (when most of America is at work) is not conducive to pulling business away from some of the big box stores. It is unfortunate But you are not even open late one night during the week so people can bring business to you instead of Home Depot after they finish supper.

Great store helpful and knowledgeable staff... with the exception of the guy with the glasses and the nice Tom Selleck 'stache... He is a wonderful "ray of sunshine." He has the personality of a "doornail"- He should avoid customer service altogether and become a basket weaver or something. Avoid him at all costs and you'll be satisfied - ask for Keith!

I like to support small businesses but what's been going on in Rochester lately? Customer service seems to not be a priority.
I went here for a piece of plumbing hose. Even had a pic on my phone to show exactly what I needed.
Asked the man standing behind the counter for help and right away he had an attitude and acted as if he has never seen or heard of this product.
Um, it's the most common plumbing item in the world besides a toilet I would imagine. It says PLUMBING in huge letters outside your business.
So he starts looking around-- finally finds something similar -- but not

Black's is probably the best independent Hardware store in Rochester. Experts on plumbing and a large inventory of all sorts of plumbing supplies. Have been in there many times with old plumbing parts, the counter guys can usually ID the part at a glance then find you the replacement parts in stock.. Friendly and helpful always, never an attitude from these folks !!

This is the hardware store of the past - a small, cramped building with a mysterious upstairs (that's probably not mysterious at all to regular hardware store attendees but to an "I need a thingamajig" type person like myself, it's mystery is profound), a few older guys who seem to be able to tell you anything about anything related to fixing a house, and that token kid who is probably the owner's son that is earning his allowance. The type of store that probably only has one or two options of everything they carry, but so far I've found the few things I went in looking

The perfect example of a small local business. There is more stuff in this store than you could ever imagine - but way beyond that there are real live caring human beings that work there and will assist you. I have been going to this store since I became a home owner in 2000 and they have always helped me with the project that I was involved in and/or recommended who would be able to help me.
