We are a cooperative preschool in Sammamish for children ages 3 to 6. Curriculum is designed by skilled and experienced professionals. We follow a play-based early-learning program that prepares children for academic and lifelong success. We are the only preschool on the plateau featuring integrated parent education provided by Bellevue College faculty.
Registration for the 2021/22 school year is ongoing with just a few open spots - contact Registrar to learn more. Our cooperative preschool is a non-profit organization and a program of the Bellevue College Parent Education Program. We offer a play-based early-learning program, where children learn, problem-solve, develop social skills, and explore their world through play.

Services
Provide our children the opportunity to learn, grow and interact with other children and adults in a supervised setting that is both warm and nurturing. Introduce our children to the basics of math, science, reading and fine motor readiness skills with hands-on activities and experiments. Build friendships with other adult caregivers of preschoolers and support each other in our learning.
Pine Lake Co-op Preschool is a cooperative preschool, a non-profit organization, and affiliated with the Bellevue College Parent Education program, serving Sammamish and Issaquah families since 1973. A Co-op Preschool is an Interactive Educational Program for Adult Caregivers and Children. Family involvement in schools is one of the most powerful predictors of high student achievement and healthy development.
Learn by doing - adult caregivers work alongside teachers, parent educators, other adults, and children in the preschool classroom. Monthly parenting education sessions cover topics relevant to raising the age of children in the class. The parent educator may poll families for topics of greatest interest for these sessions.
Kim has more than 15 years experience in the Bellevue College program, as teacher, parent educator, and parent. She holds a B.A. in Home Economics with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education. As a teacher she enjoys working with both the children and the parents. Barb has worked with young children and their families since graduating with a BA in Elementary Education with emphasis in Child and Family Studies from WSU.
Classes begin in September and end in May. Our preschool classes are led by a teacher with 2-3 adult co-op participants acting as assistants each day. A Bellevue College parenting educator also attends at least once a week. We enroll a maximum of 18 students for each class. The preschool curriculum is designed to provide a full range of activities that are developmentally appropriate, creative and fun.

I have had such a great experience with Pine Lake Co-Op Preschool. My kids (age 5 and 3 are currently in the Pre-K and 3/4s class and they are having a lot of fun and getting such good development socially with other kids! My 3 year old in particular, really enjoys her classes. My 5 year old has problems getting along with other kids, but the teachers and other parents have been such great support with nudging him to make good choices. Teacher Ardis Mortensen is a treasure, and she is amazing with the kids under her care.

Pine Lake Co-op is a gem on the plateau! The kids are able to learn by doing, experiencing and creating rather than sitting all day doing cutting and glue crafts or a worksheet. Social skills are practiced and encouraged under the guidance of Bellevue College's Parent Educators (who are trained based the latest research in child development and education) and the most amazing instructors who have been teaching at the co-op for DECADES!
Children need to learn a variety of coping skills at the preschool level in order to prepare them for those minutes spent on the playground in elementary

Pine Lake Coop has a great summer camp program that is affordable ($110) and well run by the regular teachers that run the preschool during the school year. Another program that people don't know about very well but is fantastic is the once a week Arts & Sciences class...highly recommended and the kids have a blast!
My older daughter had some separation anxiety but the teachers were really accommodating
and understanding. My older daughter in 1st grade now talks about her days at the preschool as the "good old days". My younger daughter currently goes to the 3's class

We joined this school last year after our son was unhappy at his other preschool. He came in a quiet and shy, behind the scenes kid and has blossomed in a social, outgoing and engaging child! He looks forward to school each day and enjoys all the hands on activities the school provides. I've visited a few schools in the area, tried out 2 others and finally found this school, where they LET the kids be kids! There is plenty of free-choice time and exploration balanced out with structured themes and guided activities. There is some commitment on the parents part, but I have enjoyed my time

We are back at Pine Lake with our youngest, and I love the small changes that the teachers have introduced into the classes. I'm seeing even more hands-on science. The teachers continue to train and take in the latest early childhood education research, and immediately put it to use in their classes.
And all of the things I've loved about this school remain from my earlier review.

I am not sure if you'll get a better preschool anywhere, but I'm certain you won't get a better preschool for the money! The co-op is incredibly well run by skilled teachers and instructors. It is play-based and developmentally right on. You work in the class 1-3 times a month depending on the class, so just enough to really enjoy seeing your kid in action but not so often that you miss out on the break preschool provides! The preschool far exceeded my expectations, especially after trying a few others in my years as a parent. I also have loved seeing my child interact with other

Our experience with Pine Lake Co-op Preschool has been wonderful. The teachers are highly skilled in working with children in different stages of social development. The hands on co-op program lets us really see how our child progresses and gives us a lot of confidence in the staff.
We definitely recommend this school if you live in the Issaquah/Sammamish area.
