Lewis was born in Amarillo and raised on the family farm on Whitaker Road. He graduated from Amarillo High School and West Texas State University. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture. Lewis married Cindy Jones in 1970, and they have two children, Lee & Lanny. In 1974, Lewis began selling real estate and quickly earned his Real Estate Broker designation and began to focus on selling farm, ranch and recreational property.

Lewis Whitaker, was extremely knowledgeable. As a trustee for an old family farm trust (while also living in Georgia) I needed an agent with extensive localized experience and knowledge that I could interact with remotely. I did online research and Lewis had a great reputation. Lewis was not only an expert in real estate but also was a farmer/rancher and was able to explain his marketing strategies.
