South Bay Eco Kids
When my family wasn't camping in the summer or skiing in the winter, I would spend countless hours playing in the creek across the street from my childhood home. Never mind the playground half a block away; it wasn't half as interesting as the crawdads and tadpoles in the creek, the birds and squirrels in the trees, and the trees themselves, which provided endless amusement as climbing structures.

Back at home, when we weren't outside enjoying nature, we were taught that the many resources that the Earth provides - energy, water, food, paper, etc. - are precious and not to be wasted. It was these childhood experiences that instilled in me a deep appreciation for nature and an understanding that we humans have a responsibility to protect it.
Services
South Bay Eco Kids is a program of TeachingGreen, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people love and protect our natural world. At Eco Kids Camp, we get children back into nature where they can thrive. No computers, no smart phones, no man-made playground equipment. Just trees and ponds, insects and wildlife, waiting to be discovered and explored.
Of all the camps my daughter did this summer, she said that South Bay Eco Kids was her favorite. She originally was signed up for a half day but wanted to go for a full day so that she wouldn't miss out on the fun. She particularly loved the nature journal and pet plant. There were so many educational and fun projects throughout the week.
Are you a responsible, caring, fun, and energetic person who loves working with kids? Eco Kids this summer and spend your days making kids smile and creating memories of a lifetime. We are seeking Camp Counselors for our 2022 Summer nature camp program for children ages 7 - 9 years.

Working under the supervision of the Camp Director, our Camp Counselors oversee children participating in a variety of enrichment and recreational activities with environmental themes.Together with other Camp Counselors, safely lead activities and supervise a group of 21 children. Demonstrate leadership and a commitment to education, inspiration and encouragement of youth.

My 7.5yo daughter had the BEST TIME at a week of full day camp. She learned so much, she talked me ear off every afternoon telling me all about her adventures, and she really liked the teachers too. We are so grateful we found this camp and we will definitely be signing up again next summer!!

South Bay Eco Kids is a great camp. My daughter loves it and this year was her second time at the camp. Kids learn a lot about different elements of nature & environment here and have a lot of fun playing at the same time. All kids love Wilderness Park, so the location is a hit with them too. Kathleen, the person who runs this camp, is very responsive and organized. Next year my son will be old enough to enroll as well, and both my kids are looking forward to be at this camp together!

South Bay Eco Kids Camp at Wilderness Park is a gem and great summer camp! This was my son's first summer camp experience and he was bit nervous during the first day but in no time at all he was with the group having a great time. He would come home sharing what he learned about nature and how we can do a better job at protecting it. He was engaged, enriched, and empowered to continue the efforts he learned at camp. It's a great balance of play, arts/crafts, exploration and learning. I would definitely recommend this summer camp!

My daughter just finished a week long camp and absolutely loved it. She was excited to go everyday! Staff was attentive, helpful and kind. My daughter made really cool crafts and really enjoyed her days at the Wilderness Park. My only wish is that camp started at 9am instead of 10am. I will definitely be signing up again next year!

My son had THE very best time at Eco Camp. He was in the afternoon session, and could not wait to go to camp each day. He learned so much, and has implemented much of that knowledge at home. We will certainly be back next year, and hope to secure a spot in the all day camp. Thank you so much for such a wonderful experience!!

I love the message of this camp. It is important to me to raise kids who are environmentally aware. My eldest son loved this camp, even talking about it months afterward, it is his favorite camp! I could see him really internalizing the lessons of conservation. Can't wait to send my younger son now that he is old enough!

This camp is a perfect alternative to a beach camp. I loved the peaceful setting with lots of shade and space to roam and explore. The activities, crafts and lessons are super fun and age appropriate. My son loved the camp counselors (so did I!) and learning about how to be green at home and in the community. He came away with some great new green habits and new friends. I can't wait to sign up next summer!

My kiddo had an awesome week at this camp. He learned important lessons about environmentalism and further developed his already deep respect for nature. He came home wet, filthy and very happy each day.

My daughter attended this camp for 1 week and did the full-day option. She said it was the BEST camp she did this summer. She was very excited for each day. The camp director was extremely informational and organized - I even got an "End of Camp Summary" email with pictures of my daughter. My daughter came home everyday with something special she learned about our environment/nature. The activities she did everyday were very interactive, fun, and engaging. Wilderness Park was a great venue because it allowed the kids to explore nature first-hand and create in an environment they were

As we were leaving camp on the last day my daughter sighed and said, "I'm actually going to miss this camp." Me: "Oh, yea? Why?" (She's been to quite a few camps in her life and never said anything like this). She proceeded, "I woke up every day looking forward to coming here!" Clearly she had a transformational experience in this camp- a chance to be in nature and learn with hands on experiences about the joys of caring for our planet. What a gift that it was fun for her, to boot! Many thanks to the wonderful leaders of the camp- we highly recommend it.

If you want your kids to have a great week-send them to this camp. Kathleen, a former teacher, and Emily are excellent at helping kids learn about the environment and how they can be better stewards of the earth. My daughter came home each day with something new we could try as a family or a new fact about the environment. The crafts were awesome, the free play was just the right amount, and they did a great job helping the kids learn how to find the fun with the simple things around us. They also did a great job of keeping the kids in the shade and making sure everyone was safe.

I was excited to find a camp for my first grader that would allow her to get in touch with nature!
Not only did she love it (woke up smiley and eager to go- rare for such a shy and grumpy kid)- she came home telling me things we needed to do to help the environment.
I was concerned about her being outside for the full day (6 hours)- but she was disappointed to leave each day so I guess the time wasn't too long. She came home with neat crafts that were useful (hummingbird feeder, nature journal, painted rocks for the garden, etc.) no plastic clutter or loads of things I had to find a place

South Bay Eco Kids is a hidden gem among beach area camps. This camp is educational, engaging, and inspiring. Summers should be filled with climbing trees, exploring the wilderness and getting messy and I was so thankful that this camp provided C with that opportunity. She came home every day covered in dirt & a huge grin on her face. Not only did she have fun, but she learned so much about the environment in a deeper way. It is a rare setting where she was able to be immersed in the lessons of environmentalism while running in nature and collaborating with friends.
