Starboard Marine
Whether your boat is a power cruiser, fishing boat, speed boat, sailboat, catamaran, jet ski, or anything else made of fiberglass -- we can take care of its hull, superstructure, and all things fiberglass. We replace deteriorated wooden components with treated plywood that's been kiln-dried for dimensional stability.

Then we coat the wood with fiberglass resin which penetrates into the surface fibers to make it even more water resistant. We can also apply a tough surface to heavy wear areas by using a sprayable bed liner material. An item that we make quite a few of is commercial doors.
Services
Hulls can need repair as a result of damage, delamination, or deterioration from water or sun exposure. Cracks, holes, soft areas, and crushed fiberglass can be repaired or replaced extending the life of your boat many years. Strength comes from woven fiberglass cloth. Broken pieces of original fiberglass are removed and the area is covered by layers of fiberglass cloth and resin to a thickness that restores the original strength.
Gelcoat is the outermost layer over the fiberglass. When a boat is built, a layer of polyester resin is applied to the inside of the mold before any fiberglass is laid down. This layer of resin becomes the outer surface of the boat, and is called gelcoat. So contrary to its name, gelcoat is not a decorative coating applied over the fiberglass.
A Beach Bottom is the addition of a very hard, reinforced, abrasion resistant zone to the hull of a personal watercraft (PWC). Running a PWC onto a sand beach is almost like running it onto sandpaper -- it removes a thin layer of the hull every time you do it. A Beach Bottom's tough, abrasion resistant material is a super-hard resin and woven fiber sandwich that wears down much more slowly than the bare gel-coat of an unprotected PWC hull.
The transom of a power boat is the strongest part of the vessel. The great forces exerted between the engine and the hull come to a focus at the transom. Eventually, the transom may deteriorate and weaken to the point that your boat is not seaworthy. Pressure treating adds quite a bit of moisture to wood, so we use kiln dried plywood.
Here is a picture story that starts after we painted the bottom of the hull red and white, and the top of the hull with primer. We have already installed new wooden seat mounts, coated in resin, when these pictures were taken. We laid out the paint scheme on the hull in masking tape. The paint on the top and the bottom of the boat have to be coordinated in separate painting sessions.

I’ve used Starboard Marine atleast 5 times since 2005 . When I first moved here after getting wiped out by Hurricane Katrina , one of my semi-trucks had the roof ripped open . Pat reconstructed the upper sleeper and reframed a window just by measuring the other side and no one could tell it was ever damaged. He has since then worked on my other equipment when it involved fiberglass or carbon fiber. He’s always been great to work with and He’s very fair with his pricing . Wayne Reeder.
