Research from Centers for Disease Control reveals that half of the American adults suffer some forms of gum disease. Unfortunately, gum disease is often un-diagnosed or overlooked even by your general dentists. Usual symptoms of gum disease include red and bleeding gums, receding gums, bad breath, loosening and shifting of teeth over time.
The main goal of gum disease treatment is to remove bacteria that grow deep underneath the gums so that the progression of gum disease can be stopped or reduced. There are two phases to gum disease treatment. During the first phase of treatment, a scaling and root planing procedure sometimes known as "deep cleaning" is rendered.
Bone loss around teeth is in general the hallmark of gum disease. In some situations, the contour of the bony defects resulting from gum disease may be shaped in such as ways that bone grafting materials may be placed inside the defects to potentiate new bone formation around teeth. If so, a regenerative periodontal therapy is indicated.
Gummy smiles, receding gums, or uneven gum margins may have negative impacts on the esthetics of an individual's smile. Cosmetic periodontal surgery can help individual suffering from these conditions to have more attractive smiles. Gummy smile, known as excessive gingival display, is a condition in which too much gum tissues or too little teeth are showing upon smile.

Dr. Ho is the best! He takes time to listen to all your dental concerns and explain to you different options to treat the problem. He is a great clinician/surgeon and truly cares about his patients' well-being. I am so happy to have found him as my periodontist! That's why I'd rather go see him than someone closer home as he is an hour away.
