We strongly believe in our fundamental roots to the Gracie Self-Defense curriculum. We also believe that the environment of a strong academy will promote healthy competition, and we stay current with the evolution of the sport. Amazing experience thus far training at North Coast Jiu jitsu. Jake and his professors have a strong emphasis on training the right way for all levels. Whether you want to focus on self-defense or be competitive, this is right school for you. Family wise, there are a ton of kids and teens enrolled in those classes, so the family environment is very strong. 10/10

NCJJ is the best place I've trained, hands down. I have trained at other gyms over the last few years and nothing can match the vibe of the classes or the knowledge of Jake. If you want to push yourself and compete, there are competition focused classes. If you want to learn, there are mellow intro classes. Everyone is supportive and looks out for each other. Overall, I wouldn't recommend anywhere but NCJJ đŸ¤™

North Coast Jiu Jitsu is in a league of it's own. Great location, welcoming environment, great community of teammates, and world class instruction. It's more than just a gym it's a community with the feel of family. Professor/owner Jake Mapes truly cares about each and every student, so it should come as no surprise that the gym reflects this philosophy.

I can't say enough great things about North Coast Jiu Jitsu. The coaches are world class and care about the growth of their students. They push you to be your best and provide the skills and technique to do just that. The community of teammates and coaches at North Coast has a true family vibe. I've been coming here for almost a year and I can honestly say this is the most welcoming dojo I've ever been to! EVERYONE is humble and willing to learn from one another. The energy in this place is fantastic because the way it's run. The jiujitsu is next level. Professors Kris and Jake are great. They treated me like family since day one!

After leaving our last jiu-jitsu studio that we loved up in Orange County, Gracie Barra San Clemente, because the drive got to be too much, we thought we would never find another one like it. Jake and Kris are both amazing instructors who bring a wealth of knowledge and experience in Jiu Jitsu. The academy is clean and filled with a welcoming atmosphere. Classes are frequent so it’s perfect for someone with a hectic schedule. The students are very welcoming and respectful. Definitely recommend this academy to anyone interested!

We are very fortunate to have come across this Jiu Jitsu school. We signed up our 7 year old son first and he loved it, now our 4 year old daughter is taking classes as well. Jake, Chris, and Taylor are fantastic instructors who not only show plenty of patience, but have helped teach our kids focus and discipline. My sons second grade teacher even remarked that he's more focused and on task in class, I attribute that directly to North Coast Jiu Jitsu as it's been a challenge for him in the past. High recommended!

I am so happy to train at North Coast Jiu Jitsu! Jake and Kris are great instructors whose passion shines through when they teach. They explain details, and show a range of technique and positions for any given situation during each class. I like how their lessons build upon one another, which makes concepts more clear and easier to understand.
The gym is at a great location, easy to get to, beautiful space. The schedule really allows to find time to train and try out different things (self-defense, no gi, gi, wrestling, for example). There really is something for everyone!

Excited to have a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym of this caliber in the heart of Vista and so close to me. Kris and Jake are the Black Belt instructors and are extremely knowledgeable, skilled, friendly and down to earth. You can tell Jake and Kris are passionate about creating a high quality environment for training. I felt immediately welcome and the academy has a great vibe full of laughs, and great training. Highly recommended to anyone interested in Jiu-Jitsu and self-defense.
