Rachel Robertson is a seasoned pilates instructor/coach in Roanoke, VA with over 28 years of experience. At Energy Within Pilates you will learn how to access and move your body in a new and more balanced way as you evenly training all of your muscles through a series of fluid, continuous movements and proper breathing techniques.

Classes have 3 people. The beauty of Pilates training is that it's different and treats the body as a whole. The benefits of Pilates are limitless here in the beautiful Roanoke Valley. The reduction and elimination of back, neck, shoulder, hip, and knee pain are just the beginning as you increase overall wellness and learn to relax in your body enhancing mental health. Muscles work together in groups to either stabilize or mobilize our bones.
Pilates exercises create balanced strength, body awareness, and lifelong spinal health, which are key to a healthy body. Joseph Pilates history. He was born in Dusseldorf in 1880. He was a sickly, frail child who suffered from asthma, rickets, and rheumatic fever. Rather than follow an established fitness regiment, he became a seeker of new and different approaches.
Rachel has owned and operated Energy Within Pilates for over 28 years and now lives in the Roanoke, VA area. Working as a massage therapist and fitness instructor, she discovered Pilates at age 35. I was uncomfortable in my body, never sitting or standing still for any length of time without moving or stretching.
I am so grateful for her strengthening my core and preparing me to be strong for knee replacement in June. At a recent appointment with my orthopedic surgeon I told him I was taking pilates he exclaimed, "Keep doing what you are doing." I highly recommend taking classes with Rachel. She is sensitive to your specific needs while encouraging you to test yourself and work toward better health through proper body movement and control!
If you're new to Pilates, new to Energy Within Pilates or new to Roanoke, VA you probably have some questions. This should answer a few, but reach out to Rachel directly for more information. Once you are released by your doctor and able to exercise, Pilates is excellent for neuro-muscular re-patterning.

I wasn't exercising much and spent hours everyday sitting at a desk so I was very weak and out of shape when I started Pilates at Energy Within 3.5 years ago. It wasn't easy to get my body moving but Rachel was patient with me and helped me move from a gentle start on all the moves to increasingly advanced moves. My body has responded very well and I have much more strength, some great new muscles and much better posture. I am convinced that coming here was a super smart decision and I'm very glad I found this place and got underway with Pilates and Rachel. Highly recommended!!

I've been to several other pilates studios over the past few years. I really love Rachel at Energy Within. I appreciate her attention to detail. She knows so much about how the body works and makes sure that everyone is doing the exercises properly and using the correct muscles. There have been so many times that my body has wanted to compensate and use the wrong muscles, but she is able to see that, correct me and get me to use muscles that really help me gain strength in all the right places. I've been going to Pilates at Energy Within twice a week for over a year, and I love it! Rachel, the owner and instructor, is amazing. She's been teaching Pilates for over 20 years and has a tremendous amount of knowledge. Because of her vast knowledge, she is able to address any specific needs and physical limitations you have as an individual. She really cares that people learn how to do Pilates right. The correct form is very important to her.
