Psychotherapy provides a unique environment apart from a person's family, friends, or co-workers to discuss problems or concerns with an experienced and empathic psychologist. Psychotherapy creates a safe and confidential place where anything can be talked about. In my approach as a psychologist, I typically tailor how I work to specific needs of the individual with whom I am meeting.

I've been seeing Dr. Dodson on and off for many years as I have chosen to return to her practice during different phases of my life. A therapist is such an individual preference, and in her I found a warm, supportive, insightful guide, who I am grateful for each time I go. I appreciate her flexibility, her empathy and humor, and that she has always been there for me.

From my brief experience, I'd say she's a well-meaning and compassionate, if somewhat disorganized, therapist. She seems to lack the intellectual rigor necessary for in-depth psychotherapy (at one point she proposed a self-help technique that mistakenly conflated, and misattributed, two pop-psychology approaches meant for two different kinds of issues). She could be fine if you just need someone to talk to, but she wasn't right for me.
