The word "periodontal" means "around the tooth." Periodontal Disease (also known as "gum disease", "pyorrhea" or "periodontal infection") is an ongoing bacterial infection in the gums and bone around your teeth. This infection leads to an inflammation under the gums. If it isn't treated, the inflammation can destroy the bone around your teeth resulting in tooth loss.
Periodontal disease is a bacterial infection that penetrates into the gums and into the bone around your teeth, causing inflammation. Periodontal inflammation leads to bone loss, and possibly tooth loss, and may contribute to other serious medical conditions. The periodontal infection must be removed and the area given a chance to heal.
Periodontal Disease is similar to other chronic diseases, such as Diabetes. The key to control is early diagnosis and treatment, followed by prompt ongoing treatment. This entails periodontal maintenance procedures (PMP) or supportive periodontal therapy. PMP will help in gaining control of the disease and increase your chances of keeping your teeth.

Did my 11 year olds frenectomy after being referred by Ferlito, DMD. Zoloft, DMD was amazing, thorough, educated us, reviewed the process in depth. He was kind and careful. My daughter had very little discomfort as expected. Follow-up was also thorough. He was probably out of touch with the 11 year old generation haha, but hardly a negative, only 11-13 years olds want to be in touch with other 11-13 year olds. Lol.
Someone else wrote "seemed aggravated" which hardly seems like review at all with no details however, I genuinely cannot imagine him being aggravated. :)
