Camp Kohahna for Girls was founded in the early 20's by Maude Beals Turner, the sister of Leelanau founder, Skipper Beals. She was encouraged by her brother to come from Oregon to tutor the sisters of the boys at Camp Leelanau. The academics she and her brother had taught during the summer provided an inspiration for the founding of a year round academic program at The Leelanau School.
Camp Leelanau for Boys was founded in the early 1920s by William M. "Skipper" Beals and his wife, Cora Mautz Beals. Having spent several summers with a group of young men from Christian Science families from The Principia, they moved the group to Glen Arbor, Michigan, where they bought a unique piece of land at the mouth of the Crystal River.

I loved camp. It was one of the best trips I’ve ever been on. The food is delicious, the activities where amazing (except for skiing, you should know me from Lakers, I had the broken arm from that.) I loved everything you put together. 5 stars and a lot of memories. Thank you all. -Luke (from lakers in January)

I was a camper in the summer of 1992 and a CT in the summer of 1993. Loved being woken up by the cannon blast every morning and running down to the beach to take our dips in the cold lake. Saw the Northern Lights on our overnight for CTs on the beach. Both summers were amazing and I truly think any young boy or girl would love the experiences of Camp Leelanau and Kohahna. I truly miss the friendships I made there. also campfire Sundays, ultimate Frisbee, Clark and his beautiful golden retrievers, and just the many more experiences I got to experience at this camp.
