Though he was still a graduate student at Stanford University, Robbie called five friends from the South Bay Traditional Jazz Society and organized the original Magnolia Jazz Band. The job lasted six weeks, every Friday and Saturday night. Robbie quickly learned that music and entertaining were his real passion, and his Stanford days were numbered.
From Carmel to Sonoma, from Pacifica to Concord. My wife and I booked them to play for our wedding ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts and it was fantastic. It was quite windy but everyone could still. We had the Magnolia Jazz Band for our son's rehearsal dinner at the Allied Arts Guild in Palo Alto!
Your music helped set the tone we wanted for the day - your trio played perfect background music for cocktails and dinner and later the 'Big Band' filled the dance floor. I hired the Magnolia Jazz Band off the internet (based on the reviews I read) for my mom's 100th birthday party in Alameda. A musician friend in Seattle (where I live) had heard of them which gave me comfort. They were great and I would definitely hire them again. Robbie was very easy to communicate with long distance.
Because music touches peoples' feelings, the right music will make every celebration perfect. It creates the party's mood, keeps it going, and highlights special features all along. I've seen that by selecting the right music, the planner can always make any party successful. Prior to the wedding, Robbie was in constant contact - checking in, seeing if we needed anything or had any questions. They accommodated our year-long Covid postponement and the band even learned a non-traditional song (Open Arms by Journey) especially for our special day.
We received countless compliments about the music at our wedding as all our guests absolutely loved the Magnolia Jazz Band. We cannot recommend them highly enough. They were beyond fantastic.

We hired Robbie's band for our outdoor garden wedding in November; they played during the ceremony, cocktail hour and reception and created the perfect ambiance: relaxed, classy, cheerful. Robbie is responsive and easy to work with, and we were so happy that we went with a jazz band over a DJ. Aside from three songs that we selected for our ceremony, we gave them free rein to select the music, saving us a lot of time and stress. Thank you, Robbie and team!

My wife and I booked them to play for our wedding ceremony at the Palace of Fine Arts and it was fantastic. It was quite windy but everyone could still hear the music very well. Robbie and his trio were absolutely wonderful. Many of our guests complimented how well they played and how it sounded. Robbie was very accommodating to our requests and checked in with us frequently prior to our date if we needed anything. We would absolutely recommend them for any occasion!

We booked the Magnolia Jazz Band for our ceremony and cocktail hour and they were incredibly talented, always professional, and just lovely human beings. There was great communication before the event as Robbie checked in with us to understand what vibe we were trying to create. He and the band offered a great range (from Jazz and Bossa Nova to Hip Hop) but also were always open to learning new songs if needed. They made our wedding feel even more elevated and warm. We booked the quartet for our wedding and the music was perfect! The band set the perfect tone for a beautiful and relaxing evening. Robbie works with you beforehand to understand what mood and type of songs you want for your event. The band even learned a few special requests for us. I had a bride request a small band as a surprise for her groom. Based on their musical style, I knew Robbie and Magnolia Jazz would be the best fit. And they did not disappoint. We heard Magnolia Jazz band for the first time at a wedding fair and instantly wanted them to be part of our celebration. We hired them to play at the cocktail hour of my daughter's wedding. Working with Robbie and his band prewedding was easy and they came through as promised. Many of our guests commented on the wonderful music in the parklike venue. Robbie and his band played at my 1920's themed indoor / outdoor wedding in San Francisco recently. The band was recommended to us among others by our wedding planner.

We had a pleasure having Magnolia Jazz Band perform at our Starbright Theater Open House this week and got nothing but great reviews from our guests. Magnolia has created an elegant atmosphere in the Theater, guests felt like dancing, but the music level was at a very comfortable level to allow people to network.
Robbie has been very professional to deal with, has confirmed the set up, music preferences and date and time prior to the event and has been checking in during the weeks leading to the event.

After going to a dozen other weddings over the past five years, my husband and I had come to the conclusion that DJs and loud dance parties were just not for us. The Magnolia Jazz Band was the perfect alternative. They have extensive experience with Gamble Garden and know exactly where to position themselves for the best sound quality.
