It is one of the oldest African American and family owned businesses in the community. It was located at 307 West Cypress Street where it served Brinkley and many surrounding communities for more than fifty-three years in the same location. The business was operated as a family enterprise by the Branscumbs, after Ms. Branscumb retired from the teaching profession.
They also founded the Branscumb Burial Association, which is still very active in several communities today, in 1945. Ms. Ruth Branscumb from the time of her husband's death until 1971, when the business was purchased by Ms. Barbara Brooks-Wallace. Barbara Brooks Wallace begin working for the Branscumbs in the late 1950's.

She was one of eleven children born to this union. To this union nine children were born. Charlotte was a member of Grace Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock for about a year. She was formerly a member of Willow Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan for more than 10 years, where she served as a member of the Missionary Society, Sunday School Teacher and a Bible Study Teacher.
After graduating high school, Cleveland joined the United States Army and served his nation during the Vietnam Era Conflict. Cleveland was an employee of the Southern Pacific/ Cotton Belt Railroad as a Bridgeman for more than 19 years before retiring in 1995 due to ill health. Cleveland was baptized and became a lifelong member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Hopkins, South Carolina.
