Mike's Bikes opened in 1987 in downtown Charleston as a college bike shop by Mike Keck specializing in repairs and used bikes. The Shop quickly grew in size from its 400 square foot location near The Market to King Street, after Hurricane Hugo in 1989 and then onto Wentworth Street supported by locals and college students.
Mike being an expert mechanic with a passion for cycling as transportation, off-road riding, BMX and skateboard enthusiast, and recreational road bike rider, grew the shop to its current two locations, just outside of city limits. Friendly service at a reasonable price. Bought a bike in an auction that was in rough shape; they ran new brake lines and replaced both inner tubes for what some of the other local shops were charging for a basic tune-up. Everyone I interacted with was great, and very upfront about the work required and the pricing. Can't recommend this place enough.

Went in today to check out a beach cruiser bike but wasn’t exactly sure which one was the right one for me, Mike the owner was there and helped walk me through the different styles/types they offered, he was so nice and knowledgeable and the whole crew working was very friendly! I would go back in a heartbeat and have already told my friends about it!!! Thanks guys!

The team at Mike's Bikes provided me with excellent customer service and a quality bike that will meet the needs that I expressed to them. It's also awesome that I get a Year's worth of free maintenance and a lifetime warranty on the frame. I appreciate the time they spent educating me on the bike that would best fit my needs.

When you're visiting to the area and have brought your precious bikes down to enjoy what you are on vacation it can be quite challenging and intimidating to bring your bike to a new shop. However after 5 minutes of talking with Mike's staff much of those concerns were alleviated. After some self-inflicted DIY mechanic problems I brought my new MTB to the shop and they diagnosed and got to work correcting the issues that the bike had. In fact Mike himself called me later that evening to discuss the repairs specifically and how we could actually get the better parts and performance price for my bike

I recently took my inexpensive Wal-Mart bicycle to Mike's Bikes for a tune up. The bike had been neglected for over a year and I knew it was in bad shape. Before quoting me any prices, Phil put the bike on a rack and inspected every inch of it. Then he gave me the verdict I had expected. The repairs it needed easily totaled twice the value of the bike. I really appreciated his comment that he could not in good faith recommend the repairs knowing that the whole bike was not worth as much. That kind of integrity

Instead of selling us a new bike for me when they sold my husband his bike they suggested giving my old one that was specialized for my height a tune up. My bike is about 10 years old with a lot of miles on it and I never thought about doing anything other than replacing the breaks. It's great again! Definitely worth the drive from Summerville.
