The mission of Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers is to promote independence, security and well-being to elderly residents and disabled people of all ages who are home-based residents of Jefferson County, WV, regardless of income or family circumstances.
Our goal is to provide non-medical, neighborly assistance and companionship through caring volunteers from faith congregations and the wider community - ultimately enriching the lives of all.Requested services are provided by Good Shepherd. Services
Enriching lives and enhancing living through community caregiving is what Good Shepherd Interfaith Volunteer Caregivers (GSIVC) offers through the use of volunteers. Some examples of our most requested services include transportation to and from medical and non- medical appointments, friendly visits and wellness calls.
If you are living at home and unable to drive due to a physical or age related issues and a resident of Jefferson County, call us at Good Shepherd Caregivers. Getting rides to the doctor and grocery store or bank, are all possibilities through our transportation program. Living independently is described as not being resident in a senior community that provides services, or in a group home or assisted living facility.
We rely solely on our fundraisers and donations to be able to continue our work. Being a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization means in order to qualify for this status, an entity must be organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, or educational purposes, or to foster national or international amateur sports competition, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.
Impetus for this organization was through the efforts of founders Stan and Judy Jones. An anonymous local, multi-year donation together with a grant from the Public Welfare Foundation provided 3 years of start-up funding to help Good Shepherd achieve independence and financial stability in the Shepherdstown vicinity.
Virginia Runion is a Shepherdstown resident and enjoys fundraising and we are fortunate to have her help. Ginnie is a former small business owner and a retired ATF government employee. Grandchildren and her four legged children occupy much of Ginnie's time. After attending Good Shepherd's yearly Potters Bowl, Ginnie stepped forward to assist with the important task of fundraising for the non-profit.
