The Original Mowbray's Tree Service, Inc., was established in 1972 as a family-owned business. Our company is a certified 100 percent Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE). John Mowbray, our founder, moved from Maryland in 1965 to California with two employees. Mowbray's initially began as a small subcontractor to Asplundh.
Over the years, our company grew by adding more tree trimming crews. In 1972, John had taken Mowbray's to a new level and became a direct contractor to Southern California Edison (SCE). Due to organizational changes at Edison, Mowbray's once again became a subcontractor under Asplundh. As our company grew and expanded it was incorporated in 2002, but continued to operate as a subcontractor.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! Mowbray's does not even deserve one star. This company came to my house under contract by PGE to trim back some branches near power lines. This crew SEVERELY pruned a 50+ year old Madrone tree that had been professionally trimmed 3 weeks previously. Neighbors at both adjoining properties witnessed the extensive pruning as well; one of the neighbors actually asked the tree trimming crew to stop work.
When the PGE foreman and lines crew returned to begin line repair work, they were equally surprised by the extent of pruning and damage to the tree. The crew foreman

Contracted by SMUD to trim away trees from the power lines - fine, you get what you get in these situations so I didn't expect much. What I really didn't expect was to come home to an absolutely butchered scarlet oak tree. I get that they have to remove trees from the lines but they topped the tree by cutting a good six feet straight off the top at a 45 degree angle. And then they told my husband they would remove the tree for free. Who does that? Someone who realizes how badly they screwed up and is trying to get rid of the problem. I'm really hoping my tree doesn't die, I

They worked on a broken tree branch that was on the powerlines. No consideration for the yard. They needless broke a path light, moved items (and did not put them back), damaged multiple plants and left large branches in the bushes. Generally left a giant mess. I would not recommend allowing this company on to your property.

PG&E sent these tree butchers to prune 3 Mulberry trees in our backyard that were more than 6 feet from the power lines.
There crew was three Hispanics, of which only one spoke broken English and pretended to understand my directions about the backyard landscaping.
They ended up cutting back about 15 feet of growth from two of the trees and damaging a set of path lights when they dragged the branches across the yard.
I would never recommend this company for anything other than removing dead trees in open space.

Their tree crew cut down a oak tree in skyforest today they were told by the home owner to leave all the wood minus small branches. The crew took over half the body wood or trunk wood and a lot of the med to large branch wood with them and left less than 30% of what the should have such dishonest company. I know oak is expensive so they probably going to sell it to make money. how wrong, rude and disgusting to steal from a home owner.

In all honesty if you'd asked me last Thursday (after the job was done) how I felt this wouldn't have been a 5 star review. Working for SMUD they were taking down a 60-70 foot eucalyptus tree in our backyard and it was tough work. From the beginning they were very polite (and apologetic when it took longer to complete the job) and I appreciated how much effort they put into it. Unfortunately after the job was done I realized they had left pieces that were just to large and difficult to deal with and I wasn't sure I could get them hauled away. I was definitely frustrated and expressed

As a public business these company is the worse. They arrived at my house there were 3 Hispanic guys already to trim a tree that had no issues with electrical wires. I though the guy was professional but when I notice he was destroying my tree. It only needed a 1 foot for most these guys cut 12 or 15 feet. To me they are tree slaughters. Shame on you pg&e for paying these companies to finish destroying our source of exigen.

Regret opening the gate for them to trim my backyard tree. Previous trimmers always trimmed the side where the younger branches were reaching wires, but these guys climbed the tree, took a chainsaw and chopped the top of the tree. Then the one cutting shouts to the guy below, "The tree is alive!" Isn't it your occupation to know about trees? Hopefully it recovers.

Slow those big trucks down when you're in residential areas. One of your trucks was going way too fast on Green Valley Lake Road yesterday, which is a 25 mph zone, and slammed into a mother duck crossing the street right in front of us. She was full of eggs, and was building a nest by our pond. Everyone in town is outraged about this.

They were hired to trim trees by SMUD along a pretty busy road. I live on a property behind the houses on that road. Out of convenience they parked blocking my entrance to my property. All the pervious tree trimmers have parked along the road and not block driveways. They were asked to move to get into the property and this took awhile for them to… clean up. I totally understand that electric companies have the right to park on our property, but in this case, it is unnecessary. Perhaps this is the problem with hiring people who aren’t local or part of the community- they don&rsquo

We were quoted to trim two trees and one bush after Hector came to inspect the job. We specifically requested that the branches be trimmed away from the roof line which was acknowledged during the inspection. When they came out to do the job, they said they only quoted to trim some of the branches from the tree line and wanted an additional $100 to remove the entire fire hazard.
The quote also included clean-up and haul-away, but they left an enormous amount of debris in the driveway. When we called them back, they said they wanted another $50.00 to clean-up the driveway.

Maybe this company was low bid, but SMUD needs to pay attention to the reviews of Mowbray Tree Service. This morning I regret letting them into my back yard. They hacked away at my trees with apparently dull equipment without a thought to proper tree trimming methods. They made an ugly unnecessary mess out of one side of an old oak tree and dropped heavy limbs on small trees next to the large tree. When I tried to talk with them about maintaining the integrity of my old trees, the language barrier was insurmountable.
I called SMUD customer service and spoke with a very nice representative

Illegally dumbed tree trimming (3 load of them) on our driveway. Like we won't notice 3 pile of branches and leafs. one pile was partially in the driveway! Guaranteed who ever they did work for was charged a disposal fee. So the crew pockets the fee and finds a place to illegally dump their trash on someone's else's property.
