Mattern & Craig is comprised of employee-owners in 6 offices. Personnel includes civil engineers, structural & bridge engineers, transportation/roadway & traffic engineers, licensed land surveyors, resident inspectors and licensed associates in other disciplines. Surveying is performed in house by the firm's multiple survey crews.

Founded in 1978 in Roanoke VA, Mattern & Craig is an employee-owned, professional engineering and surveying firm. We serve both public and private clients primarily in VA, TN, NC, and SC. We have approximately 75 employees. We are truly a southeast regional firm with offices in Roanoke, VA; Kingsport/Johnson City, TN (Tri-Cities); Asheville/Hickory, NC; and our newest office in Charleston, SC.
As Chairman of the Board, Randy serves as the presiding officer of the firm's board of directors. The Chairman guides the board of directors, which oversees the human resources, financial, environmental and technical operations of the firm. He is responsible for establishing and executing long and short term goals and developing the corporate culture for the firm.
Today we are in Kingsport, Tennessee, assessing a bridge on the beautiful South Fork of the Holston River at Kingsport's Domtar Park. Bridge inspections are one of our core services - our engineers have conducted inspections all over the Southeast! Mattern & Craig along with the City of Kingsport Stormwater Department, the Office of Cultural Arts and Engage Kingsport, is proud to once again be a sponsor for the Annual Storm Drain Art Contest.
Mattern & Craig has built a strong reputation among local municipalities throughout Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Streets and highways are an integral part of projects designed by Mattern & Craig. Approximately 90 percent of our transportation services are provided to repeat clients, including many cities, towns, counties and State and Federal governments throughout Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina.
