Born in Turkey, he grew up in a culture and tradition specializing in woven and handcrafted rugs and kilims. In fact, several of his family members are all professional weavers of beautiful carpets and kilims.
Mehmet and family arrived in Seattle in 2007 from their hometown of Sultan Han in central Turkey, long a center of rug making and repair. The main goal was to create a new life and future for their children. And Mehmet's dream was to continue working in his very specialized profession, the art of rug repair.

Rug Repairman has years of extensive experience in all facets of rug repair and can provide the skilled care necessary to repair and preserve any hand-knotted or hand woven kilim. This includes treasured family heirlooms and collectible museum-quality antique rugs. This 8'x 10' Kazak rug was damaged by a dog's chewing.
Mehmet is an amazing artist and craftsman-it is clear that he cares deeply about his craft. He also provides fantastic service, and is a pleasure to work with. We have a handmade rug that we got from a family friend many years ago. We love that rug, but our small kids running around on it caused to gradually come undone at the ends.

Mr. Solak recently repaired my old antique Persian carpet that was unraveling at both ends. He did a wonderful job of securing both ends and fixing the warps so that they were even. My carpet looks beautiful and is no longer coming apart. Mr. Solak very graciously dropped the carpet off at my home after it was repaired. I couldn't be happier.
I stopped in to his rug repair studio and it was amazing... filled with naturally dyed yarns and divided by country of origin. It is clear that Mr. Solak has a passion for buying and restoring old carpets. Thanks to him, I am hoping my carpet will last

I feel extremely fortunate to have found Solak Rug Repair. My Mother's 40 year old carpet tote (she carried this on every trip to see me) came to me after she passed last year.
The loomed rug material and the seams were starting to look a little worn and I didn't want it to deteriorate any more - I also wanted to be able to use it without damaging it more.
Mehmet restored it back to a functional, solid bag. He was even able to devise a way to fulfill my wish of increasing the stability of the bag.
I wanted it to stand upright and open when set on a surface and he added beautiful
