When I turned 18, my parents gave me a video camera and I started capturing family moments before smartphones were in style. I moved from a quiet Ohio town to Hollywood, where I met my husband, Bob.

We loved working with Jackie for our engagement photo session and wedding day photos. Jackie was flexible and accommodating to our requests (such as having multiple locations for the engagement photos and wedding day) as well as flexible and supportive when helping us navigate Covid wedding best practices. She provided a variety of photos that captured our relationship, family, and special aspects of the wedding day. Thanks so much for photographing these memories and helping us celebrate our love!

Jackie took some lovely family photos for us--my husband, 9 month old and in-laws. She prepped before the session by scoping out the Redwoods, inspecting the light for the best time to shoot and by giving us clear instructions on what to wear and how to get to our designated meeting point. We wanted some photos to capture our son in his infant phase. They grow up so fast! It's not easy to coordinate so may people in a photo but Jackie did a great job. Our son is actually smiling in some of the photos and we got some beautiful pictures in the Redwoods. Thank you!

We had an Easter mini session with Jackie last year. Her set was adorable and she captured our son playing while getting him to smile. So many beautiful pictures captured in a short time I was pleasantly surprised as taking picture of babies can be a challenge.

I hate to write anything less than a 5 star review, especially for a wedding vendor, but I have to be honest about my experience so other brides are aware of my concerns in considering hiring Jackie to shoot their big day. I liked Jackie very much as a person, though overall I wasn't insanely thrilled with my wedding photos.
For our first look, Jackie placed my husband in a spot on the hill (where I was hoping to do the reveal mind you) but this particular spot was so sunny that my husband was squinting so hard he was crying, so in the shots he was squinting in all of our first look photos

My husband and I got married this December in San Francisco, and Jackie Rutan did an excellent job at capturing the event. We had initially balked at the price of wedding photographers in SF (!!) and we didn't relate to the stagey style that so many of them employ. We found Jackie online, and we liked the fresh feeling of her portfolio--a lot of smiling people, a little less theatrics. She was happy to work with us for a multi-location (multi-day) event.

Not only did Jackie take wonderful photos of my wife and I, but she was super patient as we tried to get pictures done with our 3 dogs in as well. I lost patience but Jackie never did. Our pics were high quality and the entire experience was relaxing. I don't like standing for pictures, but Jackie made it easy. Her fee is also unbeatable. Get her now while she is still cheap.

Jackie helped take photos at our wedding at the beginning of October. Jackie was so calm and professional. The day felt chaotic but the pictures were wonderful. I could use a lot of words to describe how the pictures turned out but all I can say is beautiful and perfect. I remember how chaotic the day was. I was fully expecting the pictures to reflect that. Instead everything looks wonderful, peaceful and gorgeous. Jackie obviously was always thinking and looking at everything from lighting and hair to the dress and my flowers. Jackie came and took our family pictures a couple months ago and was AWESOME! She helped me pick out clothes for my fam so we looked put together but not all matchy-matchy. She kept the shoot super fun and natural and encouraged us to just hang out so she could shoot; not super posed, which I loved. She has an awesome eye and amazing heart so we were in great hands.
