Great Panes began its operation in 1992 but long before that my talents were nurtured. I began sewing at a very young age under the wonderful guidance and watchful eye of my first teacher, my Mom, Peggy Wegman, herself an amazing seamstress and very patient woman. While I was at Our Lady of Mercy High School I managed to fit in two of my favorite electives: "Sewing" and then in senior year, "Tailoring".
Who needs Physics, anyway!?! My passion for designing, fabrics and sewing were always there but I decided to go on for my Nursing Degree after high school. My nursing career of 18 years, mostly concentrating on Pediatric nursing as my specialty, was very satisfying and challenging, but I desired an outlet for my creative energies and unending interest in interior design.

Great Panes will custom fabricate all of your window treatment needs, from valances to cornices to draperies as well as custom bedding (comforters, bedspreads, coverlets and dust ruffles). We also fabricate all types of pillows, cushions, upholstered headboards, tablerunners and accessories. Monogramming is also available for special embellishments or personalized gifts.
The safety concerns regarding strangulation risks from the cords on window blinds and shades are very real! I would encourage everyone to get free retro fit kits to make them child safe. Cordless shades or motorization are other options that are available. If you are interested in these just give me a call so we can set up an appointment and I will present these options to you.
