We are home to six classes of sailing fleets for competitive racing of all ages. Throughout the summer, we offer members and their guests racing for all fleets on Saturday and Sunday afternoons (and some weekday evenings) and encourage you to join in the racing or watch from our clubhouse. The GRYC clubhouse and grounds are available to the public and members for event rentals after Labor Day until the Thursday prior to Memorial Day.

Find out more about holding your event at our club.
Services
Established in 1931, the GRYC first operated from the lawn of its commodore, R. Wallace Hook, who lived on the south shore of Reeds Lake. Eleven members and six used C scows comprised the yacht club's first season. In the mid 1930s, the growing success of the club led to Manhattan Beach for more room - to Point Paulo for two seasons - and back to the Manhattan Beach area where a rented cottage served as the clubhouse.
Active racing fleets include the Opti, Butterfly, Laser, MC Scow, Snipe and Rebel classes. Regular season series races are featured, as well as numerous special regattas and holiday events. Each summer, GRYC offers beginner, intermediate and advanced sailing programs through the Grand Rapids Junior Sailing Association that are open to both the public and yacht club members (they receive a reduced rate).
The official sailing season for GRYC is Memorial Day through Labor Day, but that doesn't mean we don't have social events throughout the entire year! Enjoy the lawn and beach while watching the weekly summer sailboat races or enjoy the patio on a fall evening tailgate before a local high school football game.
There are five active categories of membership: Voting, Intermediate, Social, Junior, and Honorary. All categories (with the exception of Junior Membership) have unlimited access to a great beach on the lake, our beautiful clubhouse, reduced clubhouse rental fees, and numerous social events throughout the year.
The Grand Rapids Yacht Club clubhouse and grounds are available to the public and members for event rentals after Labor Day until the Thursday prior to Memorial Day. Our property and club facilities are a great location for weddings, class reunions, family reunions, proms and organization events!. If you are interested in renting the club, please download and review the rental policies and agreement.

My wife and I were paddle boarding past the yacht club on Sunday morning when two staff members decided to recklessly move a couple boats to the other side of their marina. First a pontoon boat, then a small speed boat, flew just outside the docks, sending up two-foot wake and passing less than fifty feet from us. Fortunately I was on the inside, as the wake swamped over my board and sent me into the water while my pregnant wife was able to stay afloat in the lee of my board. It was ironic that the speed boat had RESCUE emblazoned along its side, as the two drivers in staff t-shirts show no awareness

I took a sailing class there, and though it can be fun trying to sail these tiny sailboats that tip over easy, the actual training had alot to be desired. It was more about grabbing a boat, and trying to figure things out, than it was learning about nautical terms and science. Maybe desinged for younger kids.
