Paul's Pastry Shop
In the early 1970's, Paul's Pastry Shop located in Picayune, Mississippi, began filling the King Cakes with an assortment of Fruits and Cream Cheese, then topping them with the brightly colored Mardi Gras sugars and sliced almonds. Thousands of king cakes are consumed at parties every year in Louisiana and the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

A cultural gumbo of European tradition, pagan celebration and religious doctrine, spiced with more than a dash of local flavor, today's Mardi Gras has evolved as an American phenomenon unique to the Gulf Coast region. Here at Paul's Pastry Shop in Picayune, MS, we wish to continue the Mardi Gras tradition making a quality product for our customers to enjoy.
Services
You can order your cake with a variety of fillings, and seasonal cakes are available for holidays and other occasions. Each cake is shipped with sugar and glaze decorating packets, one Mardi Gras cup, two strands of beads, two doubloons, and a king cake baby baked inside. Extra souvenirs may be purchased separately.

What can I say? Overpriced(extremely)OVERRATED...the rudest employees. Bought a 6.00 eclair, brought it to a friend and surprise no choclate cream inside. Was in their neighborhood the other day and told them of my experience. Well..Shelley (mgr?) told me I needed proof😂😂😂really? I was supposed to keep the empty shell for a couple of weeks until I was back in the area....what a joke. Well, I have been buying from them since the late 70s.Not as much in their new building because of the prices and rudeness of their employees. By the way, Shelley...I know I am old..😂😂😎 Good luck

Best King Cakes there are! Many different varieties but we love the Berry Deluxe. Also has other cakes, cookies, cup cakes and pastries. Has a small lunch area too.

My wife got me one of their raspberry cream cheese “king cakes” for my birthday. She ordered it and had it shipped to NC. It came missing half the add on ingredients so she had to make her own frosting. The cake itself was trash. Didn’t even taste like normal king cake. It was just bread, not cinnamon bread. Had entirely too much raspberry cheese cake filling that was just overpowering. Probably the worst king cake I’ve ever had in my life. And they charge that much but still for get to add ingredients? Garbage.
Get your king cake from somewhere else.

I love Paul's. I ship king cakes to my family to all over the US. And they always arrive fresh and on time. The rest of the food there is delicious too. All thumbs up!

We purchased a king cake on Jan 4th @2:05 The label crated 2:38 on Jan 5th. The order went out that 8:50pm
We called Pauls and they take no responsibility that we didn’t get the cake. The weather is clear and has been since Thursday morning. My family lives there and the roads are clear so not sure what the problem is?!
Don’t order this cake if you want it on time.

Paul's has been around since I was a kid, though I remember them originally in another location! Time hasn't changed their quality though, nor has it changed the friendly service you get here. Whether picking up something already made or making a custom order, I've always had a pleasant time with them and their products. Considering that's well over 20 years of service, I definitely give them a big thumbs up. Don't know why I didn't review sooner, actually.
If you're reading this, stop and go to Paul's. They are definitely worth visiting!

Who doesn't love a good king cake? My dad ships them to all of his kids every year for Mardi Gras. This year we were able to share that cake with another family here in Utah who knew nothing about the tradition. Since Paul's ships everything with all the usual trappings, like beads and doubloons, it was like an education in a box. The family with four kids polished off the entire cake.

This only meant I had to buy two for us. Great marketing.

We chose to stop and have lunch here to meet with friends we haven't seen in a long time. What a perfect choice. The bread bowl with gumbo was so delicious. My wife had a Reuben she loved it . Our friends had a muffuletta Andy bread bowl as well. Then I went through the bakery, ooooweee . So many good cookies I had to get for the taking on the road. And the baklava to take with us as a house gift. I highly recommend this place.

My wife had their corn and crab bisque in a bread bowl years ago and remembered how good it was. So we decided to make a Saturday lunch run to Picayune. It was outstanding. I had the gumbo in a bread bowl and she had the corn an crab bisque again. Both were extremely delicious. I would highly recommend it. It is worth the drive.

Great quality shipped all the way to California in perfect condition! Took care to label box with "this end up markers"...been begging Gambinos in New Orleans to do this three years now and finally gave up on as they keep sending destroyed, inedible cakes. Don't have to worry about that anymore now that I have found Paul's! I also had never tried blueberry cheesecake filling before....I usually always get raspberry cream cheese, but the commercial made it look so good & it did not disappoint! New favorite all the way around

The food Gods were smiling on me today! Every time I've been passing between New Orleans and Detroit, I've always missed stopping at Paul's for some reason. And this day was a MONDAY! (Paul's is closed on Mondays)
But on this Monday before thanksgiving, they were OPEN! And I finally got to try everything here
Run,don't walk, over for lunch and order whatever's on special! For me, it was gumbo over grits and I can't explain how perfect it was! And full of shrimp and sausage, big enough for two, came with a drink and a piece of cake for $10!

Paul's pastry attempt to be a bakery but doesn't quite feel that, they're pretty much just make crackers soaked in tons of sugar. everything comes premade and they just put it together there.

We ordered overnight delivery to Michigan. Everything arrived on time which is the reason for the two stars. The cake was so dry; all 13 of us never finished the slice. We did everything the instructions stated and it was not edible. There was also no baby in the pastry at all.

I contacted the company and sent them photos. Not sure how exactly they could have measured how dry this cake was from a photo. I definitely would not have gone through contacting the company if it wasn't true. The company stated this was how the cake was and up to their standards.

So if you are looking for a less

Whenever I'm in Picayune around Carnival time I always stop in to Paul's for a King Cake. Their cream cheese King Cake has more cream cheese than any other King Cake I have ever had, which is something New Orleans bakeries should learn from as they usually skimp on it. The different flavors Paul's offers are also a nice variety from the flavors at N.O. bakeries, even though I am not into a S'Mores or Coconut flavored King Cake.
I've also had some of Paul's decorated cupcakes and other pastries and find them equally as delicious.

There is a $15 charge for cancellation.. it is no where on the website or receipt. I even called to find out where it said that, and the woman on the phone told me it's not anywhere but the owner said to charge me $15. Not very professional.

The King Cakes are lovely, and very reasonably priced. (I'm especially fond of the cream cheese ones!)

The tea cakes are pretty and delicate, and (again) not expensive at all.

The bakery staff is friendly and helpful all around.

This little hole-in-the-wall pastry shop is notorious for having excellent king cakes. I love the cream cheese variety that they serve here. Be careful when you're eating it though because there is a plastic baby that is lodged inside of the cake and the tradition goes the person that finds the baby has to buy the next king cake and it's good luck. Fun! This time since we only had a day left and we wouldn't be able to eat an entire king cake we opted for getting a couple lemon and orange tea cakes which were both delicious. I've never tried anything else from here, but hands down this is the BEST KING CAKE in the greater New Orleans area. They started the original cream cheese king cake. It's amazing. I like to get the one with cream cheese and some strawberry jam. Once you have this cake, you can't eat another brand King Cake and enjoy it the same.
