Founded in 1995 as an interdisciplinary ensemble, Pig Iron Theatre Company is dedicated to the creation of new and exuberant performance works that defy easy categorization. The mission of Pig Iron Theatre Company is to expand what is possible in performance by creating rigorous and unusual ensemble-devised works; by training the next generation of daring, innovative theatre artists; and by consistently asking the hardest questions, both in our art and in its relation to the world around us.
Over the course of its lifespan, Pig Iron has created over 30 original works and has toured to festivals and theatres in England, Scotland, Poland, Lithuania, Brazil, Ireland, Japan, Italy, Romania and Germany, among others.

Services
For 25 years Pig Iron has been powered by a committed group of supporters and audience members who have followed our work from the beginning. We are grateful to these individuals who have believed in our vision and come on this journey with us.
This past year has challenged us in ways we could have never imagined, but we have been buoyed by your generosity and confidence in us as we navigated new ways of gathering, creating original work and training the next generation of visionary theatre artists. We are more resolute than ever that creativity, imagination, and connection are critical to our ability to not only survive our challenges, but transcend them.

We were part of an Acrobatics event here. The space works for movement artists. There are 2 rooms upstairs that handle about 50 acrobats and another small space downstairs for about 30. There is also a small room with a few couches where you can relax. The downstairs can be a little loud if you have acrobats landing from their tricks. The large room with good natrual light has challenging acoustics. The middle room has great acoustics and some natrual light. This could be a great space for your next event. 4+ bathrooms, a shower and small kitchen too.

What can I say? Most talented group of artists and creators in Philadelphia and beyond. This is not traditional theatre, people. This is a company (and a school!) that challenges their audience and themselves - but always accessible. If you attend a Pig Iron show, let yourself go in the experience. If you don't always understand what you're seeing, that's OK too. These are incredibly smart and thoughtful artists who allow themselves to have a little fun but aren't afraid to take on the big questions.

Pig Iron... brings back memories. I actually used to volunteer for Pig Iron and even production managed the first staging of Shut Eye, created for the Fringe Festival and whose opening was postponed because of 9/11. Philadelphia is a fantastic breeding ground for experimental theater, from the Mark Lord/Hiroshi Iwasaki team at Bryn Mawr/Haverford College Theater or through their Big House productions to the Pig Iron to 1812 to Mum Puppet to Spiral Q. Since their inception at Swarthmore College, Pig Iron has staged all original productions, which are the result of their dance, theater, and clown

Pig Iron, meat metal, cochon de fer. Whatever you want to call it, just don't call it typical theatre fare. As a friend of mine and I agreed, Pig Iron is Philly's answer to experimental theatre. However, it is probably some of the most accessible experimental theatre that you'll see around.
They produce and perform all original works (I guess by the transitive property of the word 'experimental' the statement I just made is redundant...). They don't have a fixed address because depending on the show, they will use a different venue to accommodate their needs.
