At Frontier Health Services, I start by providing as complete an evaluation as possible. I take into account biological, environmental and social factors into all assessments and recommendations. My philosophy is to see and treat the whole individual, not just treating mental health but physical and emotional health as well.

I am devoted to my clients and work to deliver evidence based, innovative and high-quality healthcare. I believe in taking time to get to know and care for each of my clients to better provide patient centered and balanced treatment programs. Dr. Hjellen is a physician who has opened a private practice in his hometown of Anchorage, Alaska.
Services
Pediatric Outpatient Psychiatric Services at Frontier Health Services will include many options for both assessment and treatment. A psychiatric Assessment at Frontier Health Services (FHS) will be familiar and resemble assessments the family has experienced with other physicians in the past (like your pediatrician or another psychiatrist).
Medications are sometimes needed. Dr. Hjellen's approach is to avoid medications when possible and keep doses as low as possible. Therapies, medications and environmental changes are all pursued to maximize benefit and when possible eliminate symptoms. Dr. Hjellen has years of experience treating patients in the hospital managing the full range of behavioral and emotional difficulties.
Expect that a complete assessment will be prioritized. One of the most common reasons a treatment doesn't work is because the provider gets the diagnosis wrong. Most assessments require a minimum of two visits - each an hour or longer. Expect to be given information. One of the most common reasons why a treatment doesn't work is because the client doesn't fully understand the treatment and how to manage it.
Do I have to follow-up with my provider at Frontier Health Services, or can I take my Treatment Plan to another clinic? Develop an understanding of the social and environmental factors that contribute to a given set of symptoms. Develop an understanding of the personal and psychological traits that are relevant to these topics.
The important thing is to speak up and ask for help. Talk to a friend, family member, doctor, or reach out to someone in your faith community. A doctor can help determine what is going on, why it is happening, and how to help. See if there is an employee assistance program, known as an EAP, at your job.
