We are leading the alpaca textile industry in our offering of eco-friendly products including alpaca socks, hats, scarves, sweaters, and alpaca blankets along with alpacas for sale. Alpaca fleece is as soft as cashmere, warmer than wool, hypoallergenic and almost completely waterproof. Plus, alpacas are the most diversified fiber animals with 22 natural colors, so many of our products are dye and chemical free.
18 years ago, James and Sarah Budd were newly weds looking for a riveting adventure to kick off their lives together. After a series of events that felt a lot like fate, they ended up purchasing several alpacas. They quickly realized that clothing was missing a key niche: alpaca wool. Once they understood what was at their fingertips, they went all in.
James Budd is the Owner, Co-Founder and Yarn, Fabric and Product Developer for Alpacas of Montana. He has a Masters Degree in Medical Science from the University of Colorado -- yeah, he went from orthopedic surgeries to owning his own business! James is not only a design wizard, but also the biggest animal lover in the world.
In a world growing weary of synthetic materials and enthusiastically turning toward eco-friendly choices, alpaca fiber offers an opportunity for consumers to wear soft, warm, durable, natural garments. It's hard to believe that wearing an item that feels so luxurious to the touch is also a fantastic choice for the earth-conscious consumer.
Closer relatives include the domesticated llama, the wild guanaco, and vicunas. This family of animals originated on the plains of North America about 10 million years ago. A common ancestor to the South American camelids migrated to South America about 2.5 million years ago. Llamas and alpacas can still interbreed which is called a huarizo.

Two blankets so far - and several more in the foreseeable future! I love what this company is about, the quality of their products and the genuine care they take in getting everything to me quickly.

So all I have to say is what a rip off you buy better product anywhere else from anyone else these people are rude don’t take care of there animals and lie and will say anything to make a sell even beg! They say 3-5 years! Seriously these barely last a year! They lasted me 4 months! And they were “workers socks” and I worked and there gone super expensive for trashy products! Go buy from a different alpaca store these guys over sell and lie and are rude!

My alpaca socks are cozy, soft, and durable. They are my favorites! Also, the owners are such kind community members. It is a highlight of the season when they bring the alpacas downtown to meet us on Main Street. Thank you for sharing your gorgeous animals with us!

I have purchased a beanie cap and fingerless gloves as a Christmas present in two separate orders. I had questions that were responded to right away. I am extremely pleased with the quality of the materials and handmade details in the knitting. These are great products that I can recommend without hesitation.

Poor on keeping their promises or handling customer service! Purchased multiple items and was shorted one. After two calls, five emails they still have not replied with a resolution

Ordered 3 women’s and 2 men’s brim hats last winter for Christmas. I have heard nothing but good about them. Grandson lives on the cold Rockymountain front. This is his 2nd winter with the hat and wears it all winter. I highly recommend them for anyone who works out in Montana weather all winter. They have excellent customer service.

I first purchased 2 pairs of the Mid Calf Therapeutic Socks for my husband last Christmas. He had been complaining for quite sometime that his home supply of socks pinched his toes/feet and that his feet were always cold. He has had a skin sensory problem for years r/t a side effect from a medication. After reading all the positive reviews about the Alpacas of Montana Socks, I was hopeful that these socks would give my husband some much needed relief for his feet. I'm happy to say that my husband loves the socks so much, that we just ordered more! They provide softness and warmth and don't make

I teach 2 indoor cycling classes within a few hours of each other. I normally have to change out of my wet socks before my second class. I used the running socks and my feet are nice and dry! I LOVE my alpaca socks!

My alpaca cap is so warm! Even at -20, my ears feel completely warm and protected. I have a lighter one for warmer days that's just perfect. And, the slippers are comfortable and cozy anytime of the year!
