Services
Adults typically come to therapy because they are feeling dissatisfied or worried, or have some crisis that overwhelms them. While relief from the symptoms of depression, anxiety or a life crisis is paramount, helping you understand the broader context of your difficulties is what helps change become more permanent.
Couples tend to come to counseling when they are in serious trouble. Often a significant amount of pain and suffering has been endured for some time. Sometimes the couple has grown apart and the partners have lost feelings for each other. My task is to work to heal these wounds, explore how the couple got off track and teach new strategies for a more satisfying relationship.
Teens are caught between the playful world of childhood and the adult world of responsibility, and many do not make the transition easily. Working with teens requires assessing not only them, but their family and their world (school, work, activities). Once a clear picture of the teen's challenges is developed, my job is to balance the changes desired by the parents with the needs of the teen.
Working with children and their families requires a comprehensive understanding of the child's school situation, family dynamics, and other influences in the child's life. At times the child's difficulties are best targeted by teaching parents effective parenting skills, or techniques for negotiating with school systems.
Your first step is to call or email me so we can discuss your particular concerns in detail. Once we determine that I am a good fit for you, we schedule the initial appointment. At this evaluation appointment we will review your history and current situation, looking at what is working, and what is not.
