Driven by his passion for cycling John Schlick founded Schlick Cycles in 2004. The company headquarters is located in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin and our shop is in Milwaukee, WI. John formed the company when he noticed the lack of interesting recreational bicycles for adults. He saw a significant need for bicycles with the comfort, style, performance, safety and prestige that adults deserve.
Over the past 12 years Schlick Cycles has evolved from a bicycle company built around one bike, our unique and very well received performance cruiser, the Shark, to a company more dedicated to the passion for riding that all of us at Schlick Cycles feel. The Northpaw, our offset fat-bike design. Ideal for riders wanting a fat-bike with an Internally Geared Hub like the Rholoff Speedhub.
We've been building All Road bikes in the Good Ol' US of A for a very long time. Before Schlick even existed, in fact! Some companies are now calling these Gravel bikes. I get it, we rode thousands of miles of Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa gravel on bikes going back to the '70's that are very similar in geometry to the current gravel bikes.
The APe story actually began with the Tatanka and local Dirt Jump expert, and Ray's Indoor Mountain Bike Park regular, Aristotle Peters. Aris took the Tatanka to Ray's to wringing it out for a photo session. He had a total blast but wondered what a purpose-built, aggressive fat-bike would be like so we set about designing the Aristotle Peters edition, or APe for short!
Over a year in development the Tatanka is one versatile fat-bike. We set about to make a fat-bike that is as at home on the local trails and beaches in the summer as it is on snowmobile trails and the snow covered wonderland in winter. Versatility is the key.
With the ability to run tire/rims combos ranging from 47mm Northpaw-S rims with 26 x 3.8 tires all the way up to 100mm rims and 26 x 5.0 tires, the Tatanka can adapt to whatever you throw at it.44mm Headtube gives us options to tune the bike to a specific tire size by using different headsets or even the Cane Creek Angleset for the ultimate in adjustability.

I emailed Greg at Schlick Cycles to place an order for a custom wheel build. I kept it brief and simple and even got his first response the same day. I replied to him again with a brief and to the point response answering his questions. I waited for a week and didn't hear back from him so I simply emailed him a "?". It's now been two weeks with no response. Lucky for Greg there are other wheel builders that want my business.
