Professor Keith Owen lives in Boise Idaho and is a 4th degree black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Legendary 8th degree Gracie Black Belt Professor Pedro Sauer. Professor Owen has worked in Law Enforcement as a Sheriff's Deputy, and as a Ground control instructor to police officers at the Idaho Police Academy and is credited with creating the Ground Control program for Police Officers in the State of Idaho.
The idea was to provide an environment where students and instructors alike could advance their training in the martial arts whether they wanted to be a competitor, be prepared for a real life self defense scenario, or simply be better than when they walked through the door. In June of 2016 Wildfire BJJ joined the Team Rhino Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Association under Professor Keith Owen.

What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu? The short version: Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling and self-defense martial art. The main focus is controlling any altercation without relying on size or strength and, if needed, finishing the altercation with a choke, joint lock, or pin. Utilizing leverage and physics, jiu-jitsu aims to achieve maximum efficiency with minimum effort.
Comfortable athletic clothing that is free of zippers, buckles, or any other sharp edges that may injure you or your partner or damage the mat. If available, you will be provided with a loaner gi. What will I do first? Make sure you don't step on the mats with your shoes on! Introduce yourself to the instructor and be sure they know you are new.
While Brazilian Jiu-jitsu typically tends to be less formal than many martial arts, abiding by the following basic rules of etiquette will ensure that everyone has a safe, fun, & rewarding training experience in an environment that is conducive to learning. Safety is paramount. Know your limitations & those of your training partners.
A clean White, Blue, or Black Gi with no foul odors and a clean, properly ranked belt are required for gi classes. It is preferred that you wear a rash guard or similarly tight fitting garment under your gi top as fingers can get caught in loose clothing. Gi pants or tights under shorts and a long sleeved rash guard or similarly tight fitting garment.

I've been training here for over 2 years. Great bunch of folks. For folks new to the sport, everyone at Wildfire is eager to help you learn jui-jitsu, whether you're looking for a new martial art or never done one before in your life. For folks who have some bjj experience, you''ll find plenty of blue and purple belts on any given night. Folks here are pretty chill. We want to learn jui-jitsu, how to fight, and have fun in the process.

The owner is what sold this gym for me. He is a professional who seeks to pass on his knowledge to EVERY member. What keeps me coming in is the dedication of our instructors to stay true to Gracie BJJ and the comradery shared between class mates. I am so grateful to have a place to learn this martial art.

I trained with Wyatt under Professor Graeber at Gracie Humaita. As a new “kid” and him waaaay more experienced, he took it upon himself to help me along. Being older than him, I was extremely humbled by his kindness, knowledge and experience of techniques. He was very meticulous when teaching me. Then, he opened his own school and knew immediately it would be a success! His gym is law enforcement friendly and everyone respects EVERYONE. He demands respect and integrity and gives it back 100%. Best money you will spend!!

Wildfire BJJ is a welcoming environment and members and instructors strive to make people feel comfortable when they come in the door. The gym holds a high standard of cleanliness for the facility and participants. The instructors follow the expectations of Master Pedro Sauer and Professor Keith Owen by teaching and building on the basic foundations of GJJ and utilizing technique over strength. You will find instruction in basic self defense and competitive Jiu Jitsu if you drop in for a session.

I walked into this place over a year ago, with no martial arts background. I checked out 2 or 3 BJJ places North of the river, and this was the place for me. Wyatt is a wonderful instructor, willing to work one-on-one with his students. Members of Wildfire are amazing. I could not have gotten my blue belt without them. You will also get some Judo with Wyatt's 'throw of the week,' which you won't see at other BJJ places in KC.

I started BJJ a few months ago and training at Wildfire has been a blast. Wyatt is a great instructor and everyone there is really friendly, patient and open to questions. You can tell everyone there loves it and they want to help others progress. For a new white belt, those qualities are of upmost importance. Cleanliness is also held to a high standard which for any gym is a must. Can’t recommend Wildfire enough for anyone looking to start or continue their BJJ journey.

I am currently a member of this Jiu-Jitsu gym. This is my second year here and I have been significantly impressed with the compassion of instructors fellow members and training partners. Another BIG plus for this gym is (and I cannot emphasize this enough) that it is well maintained and clean! I started my Jiu-Jitsu journey a couple of years ago. I walked in and felt extremely welcomed. There is absolutely no gym intimidation. The owner was away on business for my very first visit but everyone came around and introduced themselves. I have met a lot of amazing and diverse people here which is why

Highly recommend this gym for anyone looking for Jiu Jitsu and self defense training. Great group of people to train with here. Supportive team atmosphere, laid back crowd out to help each other learn Jiu Jitsu. Wyatt does a great job at breaking down the lessons in both tournament and street scenarios all while keeping it safe, practical and fun. He makes you want to keep training. You'll feel welcome and a part of the team the moment you walk in.
