Services
Philadelphia LGBTQ Counseling is the therapy branch of Emerge Wellness, a holistic health and wellness practice located in Center City. The practice was founded in 2013 by Kristina Furia whose inspiration was rooted in personal experience. As an LGBT identified teenager, Furia felt intimidated by the daunting task of finding a therapist that was both queer friendly and queer competent.
As therapists, we play unique roles in the lives of our young clients. Unlike parents and other family members, your teen's therapist takes on a much more neutral role which allows for the creation of a safe space for your child to grow. Within this space, your teen will experience greater levels of ease in discussing their thoughts and feelings as well as receiving feedback and guidance when appropriate.
We provide LGBT individuals with quality therapy in a completely empathetic and open setting. You don't need to have a "gay issue" in order to be well-suited for our practice. We provide a comfortable environment for LGBT individuals to discuss various aspects of their lives without taking time to explain being LGBT to a therapist not of the same experience.
We are committed to the health and wellness needs of our trans* clients and believe that honoring and respecting the identities of every individual that enters our space is of utmost importance. We welcome all identities under the trans continuum including gender non-confirming and non-binary individuals as well as those who are questioning their identity or who have not yet begun to transition.
Couples therapy can be appropriate at any stage of a relationship. Whether you're planning on moving in together, considering marriage, have long been married, or are contemplating separation, couples counseling is a valuable tool to help you and your partner to move forward.
Our therapists use diverse therapeutic styles, including emotionally-focused, structural, narrative, and psychodynamic therapies to help couples to develop in communication styles, intimacy, and understanding of one another.
