New Perspective Theater
New Perspectives was founded in 1991 as a multi-racial ensemble dedicated to using theatre as an agent for positive social change. Our mission is to 1) develop and present new plays and playwrights, particularly women and people of color, 2) present classic plays in a style that sheds new light on our lives and work, and 3) present theatre to under-served audiences-especially young people and communities in need--to build life skills and promote participation in our society.

MELODY BROOKS was an actor for more than 35 years, and has been producing and directing in New York City since 1983. In 1991, Brooks formed the New Perspectives Theatre Company and serves as the company's Artistic Director and CEO. Its mission and goals are a result of her long experience working in the Off- and Off-Off Broadway arenas.
New Perspectives is an award winning theatre company founded in 1991 as a multi-racial ensemble dedicated to using theatre as an agent for positive social change. Artistically, we are interested in returning theatre to its ancient role of gathering the community to examine social, political and spiritual issues that affect us as individuals and as a whole.
New Perspectives relies on the help of volunteers every season for the success of our productions! The bulk of our season's activities fall from September to June. We are looking for people who want to get involved and have particular areas of expertise (press and marketing, community outreach, fundraising, event planning), and a general enthusiasm for theatre.
All NPTC Patrons are regularly invited to FREE programming, including the Holiday Open House and ON HER SHOULDERS readings. Sustaining Donors at all levels will receive additional invitations throughout the year for special events! If you are not in NYC on a regular basis, we will design a special package of goodies for you.
The artistic work of NPTC is text-based, incorporating an historical and socio-political perspective for new plays and the classics. It is audience-focused and interactive, intended to have an emotional, intellectual and behavioral impact on the people we serve, who are predominantly non-traditional audiences.

A great, longtime oasis for a diversity of creative theatre artists and audiences who crave fresh and dynamic plays. For years, NPTC has been an innovative space for actors, directors and playwrights to create, develop and produce new theatre in NYC. NPTC's production history reveals the depth and breadth of its artistic achievements and great shows. We are always amazed by the craft and excellence of the work going on at this unique midtown theater.
