Women are 2-3 times more likely to be depressed than men and the reproductive years present the most challenges. Dr. Accortt treats mood and anxiety disorders during the female reproductive life course and in response to chronic illnesses such as breast cancer and heart disease. She sees women from adolescence through perimenopause and offers unique workshops and support groups for pregnant and postpartum women.
Becoming a mother is a life changing experience that is often filled with joy. It can also include anxiety and sadness. A pregnant or postpartum woman who finds herself distressed, depressed and anxious often feels alone. You may feel ashamed, alienated, inadequate and guilty. You may wonder how you could possibly feel this bad when you love your baby and were looking forward to pregnancy and motherhood.

Who are your clients? My clients are typically female although men are welcome (and can experience postpartum paternal depression). They range in age, from adolescents/teenagers (14 to 19) to adults (until age 65+). The majority of my clients (individuals and couples) are reproductive age or those dealing with cancer or chronic illness.

As a postpartum doula I’m so glad I had the chance to attend the workshop Depression and Anxiety - What Every Parent Needs to Know hosted with Eynav and Kimberly, two women in our community who specialize in women’s mental health. I’m also grateful that I was able to attend this workshop as a mother who has experienced a perinatal mood disorder… after the birth of my own son. A workshop that outlines the basics of PMADs is paramount to educate all soon to be parents, parents with newborns, and even family members that are a part of the support system for any pregnant person

I attended the Women's Wellness Workshop with Dr. Accortt last Sunday evening. I found it to be very informative and well organized. I especially related to her views about realistic expectations of life and specifically motherhood. The lecture was very enlightening with included supportive research data, and executed perfectly. I will definitely take more workshops with Dr. Accortt and recommend for my patients to do the same.
