The original Tacky Jacks has evolved over the years from its humble beginning in the 1970's, well before the city of Orange Beach was even established. At the time the area was a small fishing community with few full time residents. Just off Marina Road sat a business that consisted of a small marina that supplied fuel and fishing tackle for fishermen coming to the area.
Its location with easy access to the Gulf of Mexico made it a perfect spot for a small bar and grill to relax and visit after a great day on the gulf, thus in 1979 Tacky Jacks Grill & Tavern was established. In 1987 George Skipper, an already successful business man, purchased Tacky Jacks and gave it the love and improvements that make it the successful and fun dining establishment it is today.

Typically, I love coming here to eat. The steamed crab claws (pictures) are my all time favorite while I'm down at the beach. However, as many times as I have been here to eat, even during the "off-season"... this was hands down the worst service I've ever had. We stood at the hostess stand for almost 5 mins before someone came to seat us and the family behind us. Sat in a corner outside to wait yet another 5 mins for a server to appeared for drinks orders. I ordered a Dr Pepper which I sent back because it was straight syrup. We did order an appetizer. That was fine. Yet, we

On vacation and decided to try Tacky Jacks. Host didn't seem very interested in helping or seating us. Once we got seated it took quite awhile to be waited on but I try to be patient because I know a lot of places are short staffed. We ordered drinks and an appetizer. The appetizer was nachos which we ordered with NO onions. We got our appetizer before our drinks and there were 2 kinds of onions on the nachos. I wanted to send it back but my husband said no. He finally got his drink but I still didn't get mine. When our waiter went by we asked about my drink and he said,"

Took some kayaks out from Paddled by You for the afternoon and stopped by here for a drink. I'm vegan but the menu looked spot-on for a local shack floating in the water. We paddled right up to the dock and jumped out. Let me tell you, I ordered a mojito and fries...and that mojito was THE BEST I had ever had and I am a damned good cocktail maker. Our waitress (didn't catch her name) was fabulous, too! Oh, and the fries were excellent:-)

So we should have gone by the average rating.
Highly, do not recommend. It's marketing is simply what you think, a gimmick. The food is awful. Their fried food was alright. Everything else straight from a can or bag. Don't get a salad. Sooo disappointed. Also-- It was $160 for our meal for 6 people. Usually we don't mind paying higher prices for a great restaurant experience, this was not it. Their upper balcony/lookout is just littered with trash & their service was not great either.

We rolled to OB for the first time and wanted to eat by the water. The food was okay, but very overpriced for quality. The worst was our server, she was rude & completely unfriendly. I asked if they had any draft beer, she paused and said yes upstairs, but I'm busy and I'm not going to serve draft. The table behind us with a different server had draft. I usually wld give places a 2nd chance, but a hard no here.

Listen, this place kind of sucks. It's like the Applebee's of Orange Beach. Food is subpar, but edible. Service wasn't great. Good location, appealing to the eye, but food lacks immensely. I got the crab cakes. They were sightly better than store bought, in the box crab cakes.
Really baffled as to why its "must eat" in Orange Beach. But hey, if you want your kid to get a picture with Ronald McDonald, this is the place for you

Tacky Jack's is one of our favorite places to eat on the water while visiting OBA. This past week were were able to eat twice. The wait wasn't awful for prime tourist time. We had amazing servers both Thursday and Sunday. I did not catch the young blonde's name who waited on us inside on Thursday, but she was so friendly, very accommodating. On Sunday we had a larger party and received phenomenal service from a awesome guy named "JB". He was friendly, accommodating and so sweet to our one year old son.
The new pier is AWESOME! Such a phenomenal remodel. The chains through

Do not waste your time or money here. This place was really hyped so we decided to give it a whirl. We went early because we heard that the wait could get ridiculous. We were there on a Tuesday night and arrived a little after 4 PM. We were a party of five and were immediately seated on the lower level. The view is nice and there was a lot of activity in the marina when we were there. They did have live music that started at six.
Our waitress was nice but the service was very slow. They may have been understaffed for waiters and waitresses. I didn't see a lot of them for as many people as

Love this place, come at least once a year.
Great atmosphere even though on back
bay and not on the beach, but breezy.
Food is beach priced, but it's all good.
Service always on point, so do highly
recommend this place just for that.
Alligator pretty good, so is crawfish,
Nachos are a hell of a meal alone.

I work in the hospitality business and have had one day off since March 23 and decided to splurge today when I got off work early. Even though Michael was swamped working both the inside and outside bar, His service was awesome. Bluemoon served in an ice cold glass and the best crawfish Po boy I had ever eaten! Sitting outside and looking at the pelicans in the water on a rainy day was an additional plus. I will always recommend tacky jacks to the guest staying in my hotel!

We sat outside at night and it was a great environment- a bit windy but they sat us in an area that blocked wind a good bit. We got the crispy hog bites for an appetizer and they were surprisingly good! Our three kids enjoyed the kids meals they got (popcorn shrimp and Mac n cheese) and we really liked the gumbo and the trio seafood plate. Next time we visit, we will definitely come back!

We had a wonderful experience at Tacky Jacks. Our view was AMAZING! The staff is kind and the service is great. They are all following COVID guidelines the best they can. But the other patrons.....not so much lol
We ordered a fried combo platter to share for lunch. It was delicious. The food was fresh and well-seasoned. We had some frozen drinks as well and boy were they STRONG. Too many Bushwhackers will leave you facedown in the sand.
There is even live music which makes the dining experience all the more enjoyable.
The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is that this will not be an easy dinner
