Services
The Multicultural Art Center is a non-profit corporation founded in 1978 as an arts center focused on helping diverse populations better understand one another. In 1985 we moved into our home at 41 Second Street.

Our mission is to present multicultural visual and performing arts programs to educate the community about diversity, and make our facility available to artists or groups that might not otherwise have access to a professionally equipped facility or the cultural mainstream. The Multicultural Arts Center is open to everyone.
When did the Multicultural Arts Center move in? To quote the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi, "They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." Or at least they tried. After the courthouse was abandoned in the late 1970's, the plan was to tear down Bulfinch Square and build a parking lot in its place.
Adria Katz is an artist and non-profit administrator in the Boston area. She has worked as a teacher, an artist, and a non-profit administrator, always with a focus on building community through the arts. She loves creating, problem-solving, and working on a team! The daughter of an artist and writer, Zoe's creativity was nurtured at an early age.
Many visitors and patrons comment on how beautiful our art center is, and many newcomers to the Multicultural Arts Center ask us if we have just opened! We have upgraded with many features of our operation and have new chairs and tables in the theater, a new lighting system, new theater curtains and window treatments and fresh paint on most every surface.
We all truly believe it is more important than ever for our community to come together in support of diversity. That is why our mission is so important, and why we hope that you will make a donation. We support diversity through the visual and performing arts events that we present.

Because we are a multi-use art center, we make our space available to artists and groups who may not otherwise have access to a professionally equipped and accessible facility or the cultural mainstream.

We attended a wedding here in October 2021. A very cool building that I had not been in before. It has very ornate high ceilings in the main hall. The cocktail hour was in the little gallery just off the entrance, which was perfect. This is a very nice building and conducive to all kinds of events.

Had the fortune of witnessing a lovely wedding in the courtyard of the center— after which we enjoyed the ballroom and an art space of the old courthouse. It was by all means a wonderful architectural and peaceful ambiance.

From a wedding photographer's perspective, this venue and the grounds surrounding are such a gem right in the middle of Cambridge. What a unique space, and the staff is super friendly and helpful. You can't go wrong having a wedding here! 5 stars!
