Radon is an invisible, odorless and tasteless gas, that comes from the breakdown of uranium inside the earth. Radon can present itself in our homes from the air we breathe or our water when it is agitated and the gas becomes airborne. Radon is the number one cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and is responsible for about 21,000 lung cancer deaths yearly.
Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless, radioactive gas. Radon is the natural radioactive breakdown of uranium in the ground. Radon in water is found in nearly all sources of surface water and groundwater. It is created by the radioactive decay of radium, a naturally occurring radioactive element found in underground rock formations, particularly granite and quartz.
Uranium in water is a naturally occurring element that is found in rocks. Not all rocks contain Uranium, however, there are some places in Maine that are exposed to Uranium. Uranium breaks down very slowly into other elements including radium and radon gas. Bathing and showering is not a health concern as Uranium is not absorbed through the skin.
The term hardness refers to the quantity of dissolved calcium and magnesium in water. These minerals, which come primarily from limestone type rock formations, are found to some degree in almost all natural waters. When the water is warmed, they precipitate out of solution and form a hard, rock-like scale.

Very knowledgeable and professional team. Kevin and Tessie took the time to answer my questions and explain the system and how it works. Phone calls were promptly returned, showed up on time, left the area clean and neat. Price for the system was very reasonable and competitive. Great experience from start to finish.

I am absolutely blown away by the amazing service AWT provided. The office staff was responsive, the quote was done quickly, scheduling was easy, and the price was extremely reasonable. I cannot say enough great things about the team that came to do the install! Our basement is an awkward, unlevel crawlspace, and Michael and Connor were incredible. They navigated the space quickly and efficiently, and the end product is more than what I'd hoped for! Such an incredible and professional team.

I recently had a 1.5 cube Iron Filter installed by Affordable Water Treatment. Their knowledge base was excellent and the team was very helpful with all my questions. They know what they are doing and what they are talking about. The water for my entire home is now clear of orange color and sediment. The water also tastes much better. The best part is they saved me thousands of dollars compared to another company.

Would highly recommend. Used AWT last year for radon water & air and water softener. Then again this year for a uranium filter when we were selling our house. Kevin and his team are great to deal with. They explain what they are going to do, and incorporate input from the owner. Price was as quoted in both instances, and very reasonable, especially in comparison to other water companies. They fit us into their schedule with just a week of notice so our house would close on schedule. Kevin even picked up the phone one evening at 8 or 9 pm last year and walked me through resetting my system after

Good service & good people. The staff was enjoyable to work with, were very neat & took pride in there work. My uranium was so high another large water treatment company would not touch my system. Affordable took great lengths to fix my problem and my water is now fine. The took the radon out & reduced the hardness as well. I will continue to use them for all service.
