Services
Maido! was founded in 2003 by Seiko Dailey and is the only Japanese-owned grocery store in the Greater Philadelphia area. We opened our first store in Narberth, and we moved to Ardmore to expand our store. We focus on bringing you the experience of visiting Japan, from our eat-in lunch counter where we serve authentic Okonomiyaki, Yaki-soba, and other Japanese meals, to our selection of Japanese toys, and fresh produce.
If you'd like to visit Maido! but are stuck for a ride, we have a shuttle bus! Our bus runs between the Japanese Language School of Philadelphia(located at Friends Central School, 1101 City Line Ave.) every Saturday morning starting at 09:30 AM. The bus returns approximately every 30 minutes and generally continues this loop until 2:00 PM.
Fall is the season for eating well in Japan, and one of the most popular fall flavors in Japanese cooking is that of kabocha pumpkin. Picture this: bright and tasty stir-fried vegetables, luscious hard boiled quail eggs, bouncy pieces of chikuwa fish cake, and juicy. Are you craving shabu-shabu, but not really looking for the heat involved in putting a hot plate in the center of your dining room table.
Here, at Maido, we are happy to announce a whole host of new products to our gifts selection, namely, new types of incense! Here, at Maido, we are happy to announce a whole host of new products to our gifts selection, namely, new types of incense and incense. Summer may be over, but temperatures outside are still good for growing cool-weather preferring plants.
You may have seen a long, thin, wood-like root for sale in our produce section here at Maido and wondered what it was. The root is more. You may have seen in Maido's produce section a selection of round yellow fruits, resembling lemons, but with a slightly different shape. Yamamori Kinoko Shoyu Kamameshi makes for an easy one-pot dinner, appetizing side dish, and, if you know how to roll it, a no-brainer.

I went in with delusions of shopping for plushies, I left with pretty darn good takoyaki. These accursed supply chain issues likely make import stores like this one even harder to manage. I'll be back for some staple ingredients to make miso soup and okonomiyaki.

Maido! has seen better days.

The "Marketplace of Japan," was our destination after an hour drive from Bucks. We were looking for quality Japanese noodles, ceramic bowls and vinegar unavailable at the Asian supermarket where we normally shop. To our surprise and disappointment there was little of anything on the shelves, and it looked like their inventory had not been replenished in weeks or longer. Same was true of fresh produce, where most bins were bare. What was going on here?!

They literally had nothing we came for. So, we decided to make lemonade from this sour experience, and

I’ve been on the hunt for some traditional Japanese comfort meals on the mainline. I was really excited to try things from Maido’s kitchen! Make sure you grab some Ramuné drinks in the mini fridge before you order. Ramuné is this amazing Japanese soda that has a marble you have to “pop” out into the drink. It is very fun and the drink is so good!
We ordered the Takoyaki and a small order of udon to start. We really loved how flavorful the broth was for the Udon. The Takoyaki was very unique and so tasty! For our main meals we ordered a bowl of the katsu curry bowl, which comes with white

There isn't much to complain about this meal, but also, there isn't much to praise about it either. I'm rating this four out of five stars because it was a healthy, tasty meal, but I'm docking one star off because the presentation could be nicer, and nothing really stood out to me here. I'd possibly come back to get another Bento box or something else because it feels healthy in general.

If you are looking for Japanese groceries for authentic meals, Maido is the place to go!
While it wasn't dinner time yet, we had decided to get the tonkatsu for an early dinner and it was amazing! I wish they had shredded cabbage to go with it though. It's possible there was a menu item for it and we missed it though.
Great taste of Japan!

Lots of "Japanese", Asian fusion, Chinese restaurants that have a Japanese menu items. Some are are 5 stars and some are 1 stars. But if you want the real ingredients, cooked the traditional way and Japanese culture/mannerism Maido is your place. It's a cafe with Japanese diner/street food. Japanese culture is very friendly and accommodating-and very particular in presentation my tray had a plastic condiment cup to place my tea bag. My karaage ( Japanese fried chicken) was perfectly cooked - batter lightly and moist chicken- not greasy. The side of small udon hit the spot on the

Slightly pricy but cute Japanese specialty grocer with lots of items you can’t find elsewhere. There is a restaurant section too that serves the typical Japanese comport foods you would expect. Not amazing but decent yakisoba and onigiri. I would recommend the warabimochi though, sold in the grocery section

Cool spot. Maido! Is the only Japanese owned supermarket in the greater Philadelphia area. Plenty of authentic favorites. Food, stationary, cosmetics, candy, drinks, t-shirts, and more. Some of the highlights include the super soft loaves and half-loaves of bread. Delicious!! Also, the stationary, pens, and mechanical pencils are always a personal favorite. Definitely a great place to check out.

Meh. I came here on the grounds that it was labeled as the only Japanese owned store/restaurant in the Philadelphia area. IMO, the food was not authentic and, frankly, underwhelming. We have been to Japan multiple times and, even in NYC/LA, never have we been served okonomiyaki without a density of cabbage, scallions .. Their namesake dish was essentially flour and eggs. It felt so heavy. The tempura udon was ok but I wish they separated the dry ingredients from the wet so the tempura didn't become soggy .. their selection of pumpkin (for the tempura) was also out of season/dry. We also got

I love Maido. It's a grocery store with a restaurant attached to it! I started off with a salmon Bento and my friend got udon noodles as well as katsu Don.
Everything was freshly made and hot and so delicious. The staff was very helpful and very friendly.
You have to give your name because the pandemic is still going on and they do contact tracing. So they were only three people in the whole restaurant including me. We were spaced out and you have a limited time that you can hang out with your food.
Afterwards I went shopping to pick up all my Japanese necessities. They have everything from

Great Japanese market in Ardmore! My mom took me here while I was visiting from NYC (I have my own neighborhood Japanese market so I wasn't expecting to be super impressed by this place, but I really was!) They have a kitchen where they sell bento, udon, curry, onigiri, takoyaki, and more. There's a fairly significant grocery portion with veggies, snacks, dried foods, ice cream, etc. the most exciting part was their non grocery items. From here I bought incense, a really cute Japanese style mug, a notebook, soy sauce plates, and chopsticks. There are also masks, pens of all kinds, socks

Great food for dine in/take out, and amazing market selection. Their pork katsu with curry & rice is my favorite item!

I go to MAIDO for ramen, matcha, miso, etc. For the area- they do have quite a much larger selection than other stores nearby. Highly recommend!

A cute market and restaurant/food area. They're doing really great during the pandemic, limiting their seating and making sure the place is sanitary!

The market has stationary, snacks, and home goods. The menu is pretty limited in the food section, and takes a bit longer than expected for the food to come out. The food tastes great but I thought it is a bit overpriced for its small/medium sized portion!

A cute store, once of its kind in the area! It's not easy to find a Japanese store like this, there's a restaurant side as well, and they have takeout available if you are craving some Japanese cuisine!

The market offers a variety of items from fresh fruits and vegetables to exotic drink, snacks and miscellaneous condiments and beauty products.

You can also find small decorations and PENS! Why did I say PENS? Japanese PENS are different! Go try it for yourself!

However I do think there's too much empty spaces on shelves which is an eyesore.

Okay, now I have to go hangout with

I've been here twice with my boyfriend because he LOVES their katsu curry. I've only ever had their shumai ($5.50) and their katsu curry ($15). I would not recommend the shumai (it tasted overcooked/too mushy and not worth the price). I would highly recommend the katsu curry though! I love that the curry incorporates vegetables like carrots and potatoes. It is a bit on the pricier side, compared to other katsu curries I've had.

We never had a wait for seating and the wait for food is about 10 minutes.

Can't wait to go back and try new items (I'd especially like to try

Nice small marketplace with various Japanese imports such as snacks, cooking ingredients, kitchen utensils, frozen foods, and beauty products. The open kitchen restaurant serve modest Japanese dishes like udon noodles, curry, yakisoba, and okonomiyaki but there are not many seats and is always busy during lunch time. It's a great unique stop in a neighborhood that has almost everything else.

Heard about this spot randomly when talking about cool grocery stores near Philly. While it's a bit of a hike away, the shop had a few interesting snacks and food items, and the restaurant had the most amazing obento and rice balls.

For the shop portion, there were only a few items, but many sauces, candies, frozen items, and drinks that I have never seen before. I got a chili sauce to try, can't wait!

Now, the restaurant: For $14, you get a delicious piece of salmon, some teriyaki chicken, veggies (cabbage, carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, green beans) and rice. I also got to try the

The only Japanese market in the greater Phila area. Not a lot of selections given the small space. I was able to pick up the brown sugar miyako mochi and kinako mochi.
Re: the lunch counter. The Okonomiyaki had barely any protein in it. It felt like I was only eating batter. The Takoyaki is nothing special, but still good.

I love maido!! They have amazing snacks, ramen, and food court. I love to get their onigiri. I love all their flavors from the salmon to the tuna but my favorite would be the spicy salmon with mayo. Yum!! I got the stir fry udon once. I have to say it was a major disappointment. The sauce was not good at all. I couldn't even finish it.

Overall, I like to go there from some snacks especially the chips, ramen selections, green tea items such as the candy, and the onigiri. The only downside is the location is pretty far and I don't go there often.

This is the most amazing place I've ever been. There is a full Japanese grocery store and a restaurant. First the restaurant! The Gyu Don is like seasoned beef steak over white rice. It is life changing. The chicken curry is also ridiculously good. They are my 2 favorites. Gyoza and salad are good. The grocery is equally incredible. Lots of ramen selections you won't find in your local grocery store (I got a mayo/ mustard flavored one) also lots of candy and incredible things. This is def a destination station!

Basically the only Japanese market in the Philly area. It's a tiny market with a tiny little food area, but has all the Japanese essentials. Almost all to all the employees here at Japanese and gives this place a very authentic feel. I had their okonomiyaki / yakisoba, which was delicious! Not as good as the one I had in Japan, but a good find here in Philly.

I had an absolute field day in here. This small shoppe had a little food grocery section (snacks, condiments, frozen, beverages, etc). It even has a stationary section and home goods (cutlery, super cute bowls). There is also a small eatery. They are cash tip only, so be sure to bring cash. I only had my cards :(.

This is no H Mart. Maido is small, super clean and cute, and I would consider it a boutique. They have a nice selection condiments: soy sauces, dashi , ponzu, yuzu, any many more. I love how many of their merchandise are products from Japan.

I think it's slightly on the pricey

Really awesome and authentic Japanese market. They have tons of great Japanese products both grocery and other Japanese items. Everything is also very reasonably priced, which is amazing considering this is a speciality store. They also have a restaurant attached which is very authentic. Super great spot with friendly staff. I highly recommend. Walking inside makes you feel like you are in Japan. Lots of fun. Definitely check it out!!! Especially if you are at Suburban Square, just make the walk under the bridge and it is right there.

The lunch special is pretty reasonable for what you get.

I ordered the chicken curry. The curry itself is underwhelming. The sauce was very bland. There isn't much going on with it.

The soup was very deeply savory. The broth was outstanding. The noodles were well executed: firm and yet chewy enough.

The salad was fresh and the dressing was a nice balance of sweet and acidic.

What a cute little place! I might move to PA just so I could be near MAIDO! Maido is a little market + a little restaurant in one area. It is an awesome place to find super unique asian foods and knick-knacks. On the other side is where you can experience Japanese cuisine in an environment that makes you feel like you've stepped into Japan.
Definitely among my must visits when going to PA!
