Honor is my surgical assistant. She has been in the dental field 29 years. She has been with my practice for the last 13 years. She shares the same philosophy that I do, that complete patient care and comfort are our first priority. She and I work closely together to insure we provide our patients with a comfortable, attentive and pain free experience.
NJM: What is the focus of your practice? I treat gum disease, periodontal disease. We do bone grafting, tissue grafting, implants, and extractions. We treat gum recession and the gummy smile. NJM: What technology has changed patient care in recent years? Computer-guided surgery.

If a patient is missing all of his or her teeth or multiple teeth, we can do a digital CT scan of the gums and coordinate with the general dentist as to the position we want the implants to be in.We can actually simulate the surgery on the computer beforehand. Once that information is approved by both the general dentist and me, it can be e-mailed to a lab where a surgical guide is made.
The primary focus of this residency training is in both surgical and non-surgical management of periodontal disease and the placement of dental implants. The periodontist is mainly concerned with preventing the onset of gum disease (periodontal disease), diagnosing conditions affecting the gums and jawbone, and treating gingivitis, periodontitis and bone loss.
A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, dentist, and dental staff to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions. Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced diet.

Report
I traveled from out of state to see Dr. Steven Schwartz during a time when I had dental pain that other dentists were unable to identify and/or fix. Dr. Schwartz was caring, patient and meticulous in his work. In the next few appointments, he found foreign debris left behind in the gums by my previous dentists, such as amalgam, suture bits, fissures, etc. I am forever grateful to him for his kindness, caring and for helping ease that awful pain. I highly recommend him.
