People's Justice Project is a non-profit law firm that protects the civil rights, liberties and dignity of all Santa Barbara County residents through the provision of high-quality legal and social services, including (1) civil rights litigation, (2) screening for U.S. citizenship eligibility, applying for U.S. citizenship, and other immigration law services, and (3) criminal defense litigation, including post-conviction services.
We help fill the justice gap by connecting low and moderate income community members with affordable legal representation. Due to our 501(c)(3) non-profit organization status, our attorneys are able to provide legal representation at a lower rate than most private firms and have more time to devote to your needs than most public defender or legal aid offices.

In 2020, PJP defended SB & SLO County community members in 628 misdemeanor cases and 50 felony cases. The true measure of our character is how we treat the poor, the disfavored, the accused, the incarcerated, and the condemned. People's Justice Project attorneys will aggressively fight for the best possible outcome in each client's case(s).
The People's Justice Project protects the civil rights and dignity of our community members by providing civil litigation services to take legal action against those who violate your civil rights. We believe that the true measure of any society can be found in how it treats its most vulnerable members.
By offering felony reduction, expungement, arrest record sealing and early termination of probation information to Californians, PJP is helping community members regain the ability to participate in society unburdened by the past. California law allows people who were arrested but never convicted of a crime to have their arrest records sealed and destroyed as a matter of right.
The People's Justice Project provides individuals and families with immigration law information to help you on your path to U.S. citizenship. California is home to 25% of all U.S. immigrants. By offering eligibility screening and application assistance to apply for U.S. citizenship, the People's Justice Project is assisting with the creation of new citizens who will gain all of the rights and benefits of citizenship.
The People's Justice Project is now operating the Emergency Love Fund (ELF) grant program in Santa Barbara County. Limited public resources, coupled with the growing costs of housing, has led to a crisis of evictions, homelessness and other types of housing instability, particularly for people with extremely low incomes.
