In 2019, Marissa decided to open her own practice so that she could dedicate her time to representing seniors, persons with special needs, and their families. She is also an Accredited Attorney with the Department of Veteran's Affairs and enjoys volunteering her time to organizations that support veterans as well as the developmentally disabled community.

When dealing with issues such as long-term care benefits, including Medicaid and Veterans' benefits, or managing the needs of an aging or disabled family member, you should seek the advice of an attorney who specializes in Elder Law.

If you have a loved one with a disability and want to provide for them during your lifetime or after your death, you have to take special care to protect any assets you give them so that you do not disrupt any existing government benefits. If the disabled person is applying for or receiving government benefits (such as Medicaid or SSI), his or her benefits may be in danger if he or she receives an inheritance.
