Sometimes the universe sends you a sign, then hits you over the head with it. Like so many Ptown residents, Paul Nesbit's arrival 9 years ago came on the heels of adversity. His corporate layoff turned out to be a ticket to the end of the Cape, but not the end of the world. Paul came here having built a distinguished career in retail.
From window dresser to store manager, buyer to product developer, he had learned and loved the business from every angle. But after the abrupt end to that professional chapter, Paul elected a simpler life here. One that would allow him to recover from corporate cruelty in a kinder setting. He became a lifeguard, a swimming coach, a bartender, and time just went by a little aimlessly.

My friends and I had a great time looking around Paul's shop. He is incredibly friendly and even took the time to talk through his incredible designs. Everything is hand drawn and then printed. I personally bought a sweater, which is amazingly comfortable and has led to many compliments. If your looking for a piece of local P-town art then I can wholeheartedly recommend this shop!

We were visiting the Cape for a Wedding weekend and planned an outing to Provincetown for the last days of the trip. We were so happy to discover Mate and its awesome owner while exploring Commercial Street. Paul gave us great recommendations and points of interest in town and was friendly from the moment we walked into his store. We purchased a Maori Tail tank top and P-Town sweatshirt on day 1 and couldn't help but come back for a Boxing Claws sweatshirt on day 2. Paul is a graphic designer and creates all of the prints himself. We loved how completely unique these pieces are, not to mention

FANTASTIC quality apparel and a super kind shop owner / designer. We were here visiting from Philadelphia (hey rugger!) and stopped in because I was drawn to the branding. I found exactly what I was looking for, the prices were well below what he could be charging for this quality and I’ve worn my hoodie every day since. This is a hard working owner and if you don’t stop in and check out his clothing you are certainly missing out.

We stumbled across Mate during our short stay in the area. The designs caught our attention from the street, and we walked out with a few sweaters and a shirt in our hands. After a few days of feeling comfortable wearing them, we went online and sought out some more items. Paul is great -- super responsive and helpful in making our order. We recommend to anyone looking for a few fun pieces of casual wear!

Love this shop. Love these tees (and other apparel). Love the owner.
The designs run the gamut from fun to frisky - something for everybody.
My husband and I have more than a few things from Mate, and each season we pick up a couple more. Great quality - they hold up well in the dryer, too!
Big plus: Unlike other shops on Commercial, Mate has $10 clearance bins under the sweatshirt table along the wall. Great finds in there for sure.

My family and I were wandering around town and my wife noticed this quaint little shop down a tiny ally. What a treasured find. I am a pretty big guy and I can never really find my size however Paul's shop was able to accommodate my "triple chubby" size. We ended up getting a few items for me (Mate logo T, Diamond T) , my 13 year old son (Mate logo hat, Dunes Mate T) and my 23 year old son (Whales Bottle T). Now I am online shopping for more.
If you are in Provincetown, stop in and support this amazing designer - I'll definitely be back.

Best tshirts in ptown: soft, excellent fit, and fun, clever designs. The shirts are unique and definitely stand out from what you'll find in all the cookie cutter clothing shops in town. Beyond all that, the owner is wonderful guy who cares about his customers. He'll make sure you feel good about what you're purchasing and that you have the proper fit. I buy shirts from here every time I visit Provincetown and always have a great experience.

This place is wee and wicked cool. The clothing is original and worth the relatively inexpensive prices. I say relatively because you can get 2 shirts for the price of one at other places down the street but they're unoriginal. Mate sells unique items and the cool fella running the store is also the artist who comes up with the stuff. He joked to me that his friends say "what do you do in the down seasons?" and his reply is "all of the artwork on these pieces of clothing."
If you're in PTown looking for something cool to wear, Mate has got you covered from T&apos

Great selection of fun, well-designed LGBTQ-themed wear. The one piece of feedback would be on the shirt quality. The shirts are of a nice fabric, but I would have preferred at least some shirts that had been printed with direct-to-garment printing to prevent that raised ink feel. Other than that, a great place to get your PTown gear!

I came here one rainy afternoon while doing a little window shopping. I'd seen a few people locally wearing shirts from here, and they always caught my eye. The owner was very friendly and they had a pretty wide selection of styles and graphics of their shirts/tank tops. The thing that I appreciated the most was the unique designs of the shirts--so many of the clothing shops in the area sell the same looking styles or the same exact shirts. The shirts run about $30 with tank tops being a little less expensive. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a memento from

What ana amazing shop in the center of town. The owner is the nicest guy around. He takes pride in his work, his shop and his customers. We always make it a point to stop by his shop for a t-shirt or two.
We always do best during off-season, he runs great promotions and we always leave with such fund things. This time I left with 3 long sleeve shirts for $30.... Last time he had $10 tees and I must say I think they are the most comfortable T's and have such awesome artwork on them. My favorite is the Bear in an Icecream cone as well as the man peeking thru the dunes.... I even purchased
