Shehnaaz Dance Academy (SDA) is a New Jersey based Performing Arts & Cultural School, born out of our love for teaching and a passion for dance. SDA offers a variety of Indian & fusion dance classes, Indian Classical music instruction as well as Cultural Exploration classes. Our mission is to instill a love of dance, inspire self-confidence, discipline, harmony and respect for the arts and all culture.

Services
In the rise of the pandemic, SDA did a number of virtual workshops dedicated solely to support and give back to our community in USA and India. Our successes at these workshops and the love from all our patrons gave birth to our new division SDA Gives Back. Volunteering gives Team SDA a sense of purpose.
Shehnaaz Dance Academy will be conducting a free Bollywood Dance Lessons every Wednesday at 10 am at the Jersey City Public Library Facebook Page. Our workshop will include music and movement, a Bollywood choreography lesson during which we cover up to 1 minute of a dance routine. It is appropriate for children of all ages and their Parents/Caregivers.
SDA is happy to present classes at 3 different in person locations around Jersey City. All our classes will teach our students one choreographed dance sequence, expose them to various dance forms such as Bollywood, Bharatanatyam, Hip Hop & Folk Dances and provide bi-weekly videos to allow students to practice and perfect their skills.
Our Bollywood I class focuses on basic steps, postures and spatial positioning of the students. Teachers will work towards building student concentration and focus, encouraging them to work independently. Students will be taught to listen to musical cues/beats and time their moves with respect to the beat.
North Indian Classical Music (Uttar Hindustani Shashtriya Sangeet) comes from the northern areas of India, with the origins dating back to sacred Vedic scriptures over 6,000 years ago. We are so excited to bring to you our SurTaal class which is a Hindustani Classical Music class that revolves around the 7 Swaras.

My 6 year old daughter has been going to SDA since she was 2 years old. Shehnaaz and her team are fantastic, patient and an extremely talented group. We recently invited her to host my girl’s 6th birthday and it was a huge hit! The kids had a blast, and the parents were equally entertained. I strongly recommend SDA for a wholesome entertainment at a party! Thank you Shehnaaz!

Great instructors and professionally run classes. Instructors take very good care of kids! Pictures and videos are professionally done. At the end of the season, it's satisfying to see the results in their final dance videos. BollyHIIT sessions are great as well.

SDA is such a wholesome environment for kids interested to pursue dance. We enrolled our 6 yr old for the Summer Season & was super impressed with the way they worked with him. The teachers are wonderful & make up for a great Team. Though they had to ditch a public performance due to COVID related concerns, the Team made sure that a beautifully choreographed video was shot on the final D-Day & shared with Parents.
We miss our Wednesday dance days already but can’t wait to start soon for a second round during the Fall. All the Best Team SDA. You rock, literally!!🕺💃

My daughter has been with Shehnaaz for 3 years, and has grown so much in skill and confidence. I whole-heartedly recommend SDA and her classes. Shehnaaz Dance Academy’s Bollywood dance class is one of the best classes my daughter has attended over the last year and half. She thoroughly enjoys the process, which includes a professional-quality recital on stage at the end of the semester. Each recital is beautifully choreographed around a theme and dancers from various SDA classes perform for 200+ audience with full effects of sound, lights and costumes.
