Services
The mission of the American Board of General Dentistry is to elevate the standards and advance the science and arts of General Dentistry by encouraging its study and improving its practice. Every Board Certified comprehensive general dentist is inspired to provide extraordinary quality oral health care and maximize patient outcomes through the continuous participation in the certification process.
There are several areas of service activities available to those who are interested in serving the American Board of General Dentistry. Volunteers for the ABGD Information Booth at the AGD Annual Meeting provide information to prospective Board candidates. Serve as an ABGD Mentor-If you would like to serve as a mentor to candidates who are in the examination process please call or email to add your name to the ABGD Mentor Program.
Board certification by the American Board of General Dentistry signifies the pinnacle of achievement in general dentistry and is an individual credential beyond any other in general dentistry. Board certification with the ABGD demonstrates your ongoing commitment to excellence. It requires dedication and perseverance to complete the steps required for certification, but it is a readily attainable goal.
This application cannot be processed unless the candidate has successfully passed the ABGD Written Exam and is Board Eligible. A candidate who is Board Eligible must pass the Oral Examination within five years of achieving the Board Eligible status. Candidates must complete and meet all requirements specified in the "Rules and Procedures" booklet to be eligible to sit for the Oral Examination.
Those ABGD Diplomates who have demonstrated maintenance of Board Certification for thirty (30) years may be considered for the honor of Emeritus Status with the American Board of General Dentistry. Emeritus Status is contingent on maintaining the minimum continuing education requirements of the ABGD.
